THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
The PIANOTIST Piano Player.
plied the government for a number of years,
and all the leading military bands. Geo. C.
Boosey of the London house has been visit-
ing the "States" looking over the trade field.
He believes there is quite an opening for the
Boosey band instruments here.
Under the capable management of Geo.
Maxwell the business of the local branch of
Boosey & Co. has grown to very important
proportions. That this agreeable condition
of things will continue, it is fair to assume.

The Regina at Retail.
The handing over of the Regina retail
trade in this city to John Wanamaker, in
order that the Regina Co. may devote their
entire energies to development of whole-
sale business^ after removal to 11 East
Twenty-second street, is merely an experi-
mental arrangement covering the current
year. The present contract does not go be-
yond Dec. 31, 1901, a further extension de-
pending on the aggregate of sales made at
the Wanamaker store within the term spe-
cified. There will be a permanent wholesale
exhibit at the new Regina headquarters.

Support for Violinists.
Any violin player, and especially the be-
ginner, is aware that one of the difficulties
to be mastered is the gripping of the instru-
ment with the chin to keep it in position.
The object of a new invention is to do away
with this necessity of the player holding his
head down in a cramped position, providing
a support which is attached to the garments
and is an effective substitute for the old
manner of holding the instrument. The de-
vice is simply a clamp, with a screw arrange-
ment for attaching it to the necktie or the
upper edge of the vest. A wire brace is
inserted in the band portion of the tie if the
clamp is to be fastened to that article of ap-
parel. From the face of the clamp projects
a short stud or spindle, on which the instru-
ment is mounted while playing, allowing it
to turn freely in the hands. The inventor,
Charles W. Brewster, of El Monte, Cal.,
claims that the support will afford much re-
lief to the player, enabling him to hold his
head erect.
