THE MUSIC TRADE REVIEW
Claims Daniels Hypnotised Her.
[Special to The Review 1 .]
Philadelphia, Pa., July 20, 1897.
Joseph Daniels, colored, of Baltimore,
who has been keeping a musical instru-
ment store on South street, above Seventh,
was committed to prison without bail on
Saturday by Magistrate Jermon at the City
Hall, on the charge of abducting Sallie
Johnson, a white girl, fifteen years old,
from her home, 928 West Baltimore street,
Baltimore. Sallie was employed by Daniels
as a clerk in his Baltimore store, and,
according to her own story, he induced her
to come to Philadelphia by promising to
marry her. The girl is said to have
informed Secretary Crew, of the Society
to Protect Children from Cruelty, that
Daniels had a strange power over her, and
her uncle, Thomas J. Owens, who traced
her to Philadelphia, says he believes it
was a case of hypnotism.

They are also agents for the Hazelton pi-
anos, the Gabler pianos and the Smith &
Barnes pianos, this being a line ot instru-
ments not surpassed by any house in the
country. Messrs. Urchs and Von Bernuth
have a large trade at wholesale and retail,
not only locally, but also throughout Ohio,
Indiana and Kentucky, employ twenty per-
sons in the house and lead in the piano trade.
In the important wholesale and retail
business in pianos, organs and sheet mu-

JUST THE PIANO TO HANDLE.
The "Majestic" piano is reported to be
moving along steadily in the right direc-
tion. Inquiries are plentiful and subse-
quent results satisfactory. It is anticipat-
ed, with excellent ground for the belief,
that the fall of 1897 will be a. memorable
one at the Spies factory. No stone is being
left unturned to improve a record already
highly creditable. It is safe to say that the
present admirable policy will be maintained
and there is no reason to doubt that dealers
who undertake to handle the "Majestic"
this fall will be pleased with the outcome
of their enterprise.
The only letter that is placed on the
inside of 'the glass—consequently your
property. Advantages:—
Does not wear away by washing of
windows.
Does not come off easily; but can be
removed and replaced elsewhere if re-
quired.
The most effective—and in appearance
exceedingly rich.
Ordinary gilding on glass is as dull
brass in comparison.
Send us a rough draft giving inscrip-
tion desired, and width ofthe windows or
doors, and we will submit you an
estimate.
Letters can be packed and shipped with
cements and directions.
Try your house or store number as a
sample, and we are certain you will use
the letter as a sign.
