IO
piano world, it was necessary to make a good
piano for the money asked. On that basis,
backed by sufficient capital, they have succeeded
beyond the expectations of many. The piano
manufactured by the Claflin Company has won
encomiums ail along the line. It has been
largely caught up by energetic agents, who were
not slow to recognize its merit, and it is being
handled by some of the largest houses in the
trade. The Claflin piano is sold at a popular
price, and possesses all the characteristics that
enables it to make its way in the market.
Mr. E. P. Hawkins, who is in charge of the
practical branch of the Claflin Piano Company,
is a gentleman of ripe experience and ability.
He is energetic, yet conservative, and the won-
derful vitality of this infant firm is largely due
to him. He has placed the business on such a
firm basis, and brought the special traits of the
piano so successfully before the trade, that the
factory is, at present, running overtime to fill
orders. In these pessimistic days, such a con-
dition of things is cheering.
