secretary, was re-elected, as was treasurer C. A.
Hallquist.
The matter of '' tuning schools,'' referring
chiefly to the Tourjee branch of the Boston Con-
servatory of Music in Chicago, came up for dis-
cussion. Mr. Tourjee's letter to the President
of the Chicago branch of the N. A. of P. T.,
wherein he (Mr. Tourjee) proposes to run his
" tuning school " in conjunction with the N. A.
of P. T., and also proposing to appoint Presi-
dent Carr as principal of the concern, was read.
It was unanimously resolved that the N. A. of
P. T. could not endorse the scheme in any way,
it being believed that it was impossible to turn
out competent tuners from any school except
the factory and repair shop.
A special meeting will be called in October,
due notice of which will be given.
EXPRESSION-REGULATOR FOR PIANOS.

patent f/o. 482,168, Dat
1892.
APPLICATION PILED MAY 16TH, 1892. SERIAL

(NO MODEL.)
To all whom it may concern :
Be it know that I, Joseph Y. Druckenmiller,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Jen-
kintown, county of Montgomery, and State of
Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful
Improvement in Expression-Regulators for Pi-
anos, which improvement is fully set forth in
the following specifications and accompanying
drawings :
My invention consists of an attachment to a
piano, constructed substantially as hereinafter
described, whereby the character of the music
that is performed may be expressed or regulated.
Figure i represents a side elevation of a piano
expression-regulator, embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 represents a front view thereof on a re-
duced scale. Fig. 3 represents a bottom plan
view thereof. Fig. 4 represents a perspective
view thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corres-
Sponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a
piano, which, excepting the features of my in-
vention applied thereto, is of usual construction.
To a portion of the case of the instrument, be-
neath the board, is pivoted the knee-piece, B,
whose inner end is provided with a roller, C,
which latter bears against a lever, D, which is
pivoted adjacent to said knee-piece.
E designates a vertically-arranged lever,
which is mounted within the body or case ot
the instrument, and having its lower end en-
gaged by the lever, D, and its upper end pro-
vided with a roller, F, which bears against the
hammer rest rail or head, G, it being seen that
by the proper operation of the knee-piece, B,
the lever, E, may be caused to set the hammer
nearer to the strings, thus expressing or regula-
ting the character of the music that is performed.
Having thus described my invention, what I
claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters
Patent, is—
1.—An expression-regulator for a piano, con-
sisting of a pivoted knee-piece and two pivoted
levers adapted to be attached to the casing of
the piano, said parts being combined substan-
tially as described.
2.—An expression-regulator for a piano, con-
sisting of a knee-piece adapted to be pivoted to
the casing of a piano, and having a roller jour- oted lever within the piano-casing, having its tact with the hammer rest rail or head of the
naled on one end, a pivoted lever having one lower end in contact with one end of first men- piano, said parts being combined substantially
end in contact with said roller, a vertically-piv- tioned levers, and its upper end adapted to con- as described.
