A LOS ANGELES MUSIC TEACHER'S JOKE.
|p
lives in Los Angeles, Cal., a teacher
~£> of music who, besides being an adept at
thumping the piano, is also somewhat of a prac-
tical joker.
Not long ago he disposed of a piano to a
Spanish merchant of that place for a ridiculous-
ly small sum. The Spaniard in question was liv-
ing at one of the leading hotels, and the piano
had to be delivered the next day. In the mean-
while the joker hired a hearse from a friend—
an undertaker—and packing the piano on it told
the driver to deliver the piano as quickly as
possible, and then to remain outside the hotel
for at least an hour. A crowd soon collected
around the house and the clerk was pestered
nearly to death by inquiries as to who had died
at the hotel.
The Spanish merchant was away at the time,
"but when he returned and heard about the
hearse he was furious, and at once sent for the
funny musician, when the following conversation
took place :
4
' Mr. Blank, I see dat you have sent me de
piano."
"Yes, I see that."
'' May I ask you, sir, what for you send me
de piano on one black ' horse,' sir ? "
"'I didn't send it on one black horse, I sent it
•on one black hearse, don't you understand?
And the reason I did so was becaitse of the dead
bargain I sold you."
4
! When I first hear about dis ' horse ' dat dey
have at de funeral, you make me very much
angry, when you send him with de piano to me,
I tink ; but now you explain proper it is all
fight and I am angry no more. But I must
laugh too, ha-ha-ha ! Good-bye."
