WE LEARN that a broker has this year placed in
one Boston bank notes to the amount of $1,700,000
which have proved worthless. We trust that none
of these notes will be charged up to the piano and
organ trade.
THE BEHNING piano carried off the first prize at
the Nebraska State Fair, held at Omaha. We also
saw a Behning upright at Strope's warerooms in
Kansas City, which was all tied up with blue ribbons,
won at the recent Missouri State Fair. This only

In this piano is certainly a great invention, and one
that will sooner or later be acknowledged by the pub-

AN adjustable organ pedal has been patented by
Mr. John T. Rowe, of Aylmer, Ont., Canada. A
pedal-carrying frame is fitted to slide vertically on
the organ case, with flexible webbing or bands con-
nected to the bellows and the free ends of the pedal,
with other novel features, whereby the pedals may bo
oasily raised and lowered to suit children or adults,
without affecting the working of the bellows or
attaching or detaching any of the parts.
AN upright piano case has been patented by Mr.
Hermann Toaspern, of Brooklyn, N. Y. The inven-
tion consists in combining with the case a music
holder arranged below the keyboard, and adapted to
be swung outward for convenience in putting away
and taking out sheets of music.
A MUSIC rack for pianos has been patented by Mr.
James F. Conover, of New York city. Combined with
an upright piano case, having an opening in its front,
is a rack or panel with bars hinged near the bottom
to the piano case, and with curved slotted arms, so
that the rack, when lowered, is inclined some dis-

qualities, and that they are recognized by the public.

V. HUGO MATHUSHEK has been unanimously re-
elected Treasurer of the National Provident Union
in his district. This order is run after the style of
the IT. 8. Government, and is one of the most reliable,
yet at the same time least expensive, of any insur-
ance fraternity in the country. Mr. Mathushek, who
is treasurer of this council, is also a member of the
Legion of Honor, Legion of Justice and Chosen
Friends.

MATHUSHEK & SON, N. Y., will next month open
large wareroom^ on One Hundred and Twenty-fifth
street, corner of Fifth avenue, which will be an ex
flellent location for uptown rooms. This concern
want it understood that they are in noway connected
with the New Haven Co., who unfortunately are per-
mitted to use the name of Mathushek, yet for the past
16 years have had no one connected with them by
that name. The firm of Mathushek & Son do not, by
any means, make as cheap a piano as the New Haven
Co., but one that is in every way a first-class instru-
ment. They are slowly but surely growing, and the

taken the entire back page of the Christmas issue of

striking and readable.
KRANICII & BAOH are having a fine trade. In fact
their factory has been pushed to its utmost capacity
this fall.

WE ARE in receipt of Presto, a music and trade
paper published In Des Moines, la. I t is a bright,
spicy little sheet, and no doubt will be successful.
WE RECEIVED, a day or two ago, the first issue of
The Doctor, a paper started by Mr. Charles Avery
Welles, formerly of the Muaio TRADE REVIEW. The
Doctor is not, as may be supposed a technical paper.
It is rather of a bright, chatty pithy nature, treating
of matters relating or interesting to physicians.
With Mr. Welles' well-known ability, and energy to
back it,we believe The Doctor has come to stay. We
wish it success.
