THE MUSICAL CRITIC AND TRADE REVIEW.
November 5th, 1880.
NEW PUBLICATIONS.
S. BEAINAED'S SONS, Cleveland and Chicago.
ANTON RUBINSTEIN.
" The Tower of Babel." Sacred opera in one act.
Thia edition was published for the Cincinnati Festival of last spring, and
excels in typographical clearness and correctness. Appended to it is the
" Stabat Mater," by Palestrina, for two choruses, revised by Richard Wagner.
About Rubinstein's work we shall have occasion to speak after its New York
performance next spring.
BRAINABD'S CHOIR ANTHEMS.
A valuable collection of choice anthems,
motets, chants, selected from the works of Gounod, Barnby, Tours, Mac-
farren, Sullivan, Mendelssohn, etc. Alfred Arthner is the compiler of the
collection.
BRAINABD'S MELODIC VIOLIN SCHOOL.
The arrangement of this school
is progressive and simple. Selections are taken from the works of Rodl,
Spohr, Mazas, Baillot, and other renowned writers, and in addition 100
musical amusements are given for two violins, from the favorite operas of
classic and modern composers.

THE BURDETT ESTEY OBGAN CASE.
T was to be expected that our special accounts of the inside working of
the celebrated organ case would create a sensation. The sensation
I " boom
" has begun in earnest, though we have as yet dealt only in genera-
lities.
If it begins in this way the probabilities are, that when we get into the
particulars, there will be an amount of hair raising that will astonish the
entire trade.
A few days ago we received an anonymous communication signed
"Brooklyn," and dated from Brooklyn, N. Y. The writer makes a number
of strong points against Silas M. Waite and Riley Burdett, and appears to
have considerable knowledge of their affairs. Much as we should like to
publish this, or any other interesting letter, even should it reflect upon our-
selves, we must refuse to do so on the ground that it is an anonymous com-
munication.
We reprint for the edification of " Brooklyn," the notice on our editorial
page:
Cor?'espondence must always be accompanied by the name and address of the
sender, not necessarily for publication, but as a guarantee of good faith.
A new and improved
course of instruction, to which is added, "Musical Hints for the Million"
by Karl Merz. Mr. Geo. W. Brainard has himself arranged and compiled
the Piano School.
WM. ROHLFING & CO., Milwaukee, Wis.
FELIX KKAEMEB. " Mark Twain Mazourka," for piano, 40 cts. Who is
Felix Kraemer ? Our friend, the manager, who took the Wilhelmj-Rummel
Concert Combination so successfully back to New York ? Or is he another
man ? But, whoever he may be, he has written a nice little Mazourka,
which will please the friends of the Hartford author, even if musicians do
not share their views. Musicians ask too much, and we do not think that
Mr. Kraemer ever had the idea of satisfying them.
