Second: Just in case anyone is under the misapprehension that Jeremy and I are making
a small fortune from these events, we are not. The work involved is immense, and the
financial rewards limited. Although it's no one's business, I reckon I earned less than £5
an hour from this event, working long days and till the early hours on many occasions. I
am sure that most appreciate our efforts, but there are, and I suppose always will be, a
small number of selfish, self-interested people content to take the p*** in order to save
themselves a few quid.
So why do I bother you may ask? For the same reason I started this magazine, I do
actually care about our hobby. I feel that I have achieved something with the magazine,
playing a part in bringing the slottie community back together, and I think our latest
event and the Coventry auction last year have helped build confidence for the future. So
I shall continue to produce the magazine for little financial reward, and Jeremy and I
will continue to work long hours organising events, for the long-term benefit of us all.
But as stated earlier, I will not be treated as a doormat. Most of you appreciate what
Jeremy and I are doing, and have been very supportive. But if anyone thinks showing
support is turning up to one of our venues in the morning in order to buy and sell
machines off the back of a van ...... .I don't need it.
Wanted! Have you seen this one-armed bandit?
