PICTORIAL HISTORY
PAGE 289, JUNE, 1978
I t was in April of 1971 that Bally introduced the "Extra Line Continental" adding
another great slot machine to the famed Continental line. Those who have been in
the industry for many years proclaimed, "Bally slot leadership over all the field
is more sharply defined as well as tremendously greater than ever was the leadel.'-
ship of Mills Novelty Company even JO and more years ago."
I t wasn't just the line of Continentals as presented here, so entirely diffez--
ent from any slots ever built, it was more the fact that these Bally slots attrac-
ted tremendous play action. Furthennore, their play appeal was worldwide. In Europe,
Africa, Asia and in the Americas, Baily's "Continental" slot line was found to dom-
i nate over all other slots.
Most unique feature of the "Extra Line Continental" was the fifth reel. '!his
is a red reel and indicates extra win lines above and below the basic center win
line. A strong incentive to 6 coin play is provided by the fact that on the 5th
and 6th coins J Pears scattered anywhere on any win line pay 78 to 84. Also wins
based on J or less symbols are counted from both ends of the reels, '!his model can
be converted into a fully automatic payout or used as a non-payout model with all
wins registered on the visible credit :register for replay.

Future scanning projects are planned by the International Arcade Museum Library (IAML).
