WHAT'S THE
BIG IDEA!
Every year since the inception of "Marketplace" we have printed at least one item
with the above headline, "What's The Big Idea?" Each year, so far, old Lady Luck has
come along to bring us an answer to this permeating question.
What the Big Idea for '73? What's so different that the nation's operators can
use as a "new idea" to better their present lot? Especially in these days of huge
conglomerate businesses with millions of dollars of capitalization allowing them to
obtain almost anything they desire. How can the average operator face up to such
competition?
Only new ideas, logical ideas, better ideas, big ideas, can help today's operator
face up to and overcome the competition from the giant conglomerates. In his own way,
even the smallest of moonlighters must have the intelligence as well as the courage
to meet the challenge of the big and powerful. And to do so must come up with, and
put into practise, the Big Idea!
This year's Big Idea is the most outstanding ever presented to the industry. It
requires operators with quick and courageous minds. Yet, at the same time, with suf-
ficent knowledge of economics and mathematics to dare venture ahead. Operators with
foresight to plan ahead to meet tomorrow's business conditions. To do so with great
venturesome spirit. With faith. With complete belief in themselves.
For example, any 10¢ play location on the antique and outworn 50/50 commission
basis is, today, an open, easy challenge to the Big Idea for '73. Any intelligent
operator planning to get ahead, grow ahead progressively and profitably, realizes
that 10¢ play locations in his area block the path of his future development, his
changeover to 2-Bits play action, his opportunity to pay more to locations while he
earns more for himself.
He can step into such 10¢ play locations and guarantee by payment in advance up
to as high as 44% more income to the location owner. Can change over to "1-Play
2-Bits", deduct a "service charge" of $10 off the top of the gross collection and
work on the more equitable 70/30 commission basis, 7r.:f% to himself. He will, for each
1,000 plays at 2-Bits be able to pay the location 44% more money. And will earn 256%
more money for himself.
That's the BIG IDEA. The Big Idea that is revolutionizing operating. That is open-
ing a better, bigger profit path for locations as well as operators. That is making
today's !!5¢ Quarter pay off. That's bound to boom this industry into its greatest
years. It's the BIG IDEA for '73 and for the years yet to come!

Future scanning projects are planned by the International Arcade Museum Library (IAML).
