developed for the American

Summit Managing Director
Don Last was not sure that
British operators would be
prepared to pay the extra cost
involved in manufacturing this
type of machine. But at his
recent series of previews held
in Leeds , B u rton-o n-Tre nt,
London and Bridgend, the
Push -Over was a runaway
success.
The new technology has

including simulated reel kick'.
The extremely attractive art
work on the Push-Over was
designed by Don Last himself.
One feature of the machine
that Created a lot Of interest at
the previews was the very
efficient in-built accounts
system which shows up on the
screen at the turn of a key.

COMMENT
The amusement machine industry is
bracin~ itself for another hectic round of
exhibitions with a slightly more
apprehensive air than this time last year.
Twelve months ago the industry was in the
final period of the video boom and business
in this sector was nothing short of incredible.
The boom had lasted much longer than
most people had dared to hope. Since then
things have levelled out as everyone knew
they must.
But the more progressive firms in the
industry have surged ahead and the
increasing number of video fruit machines
on the market proves that they have no
intention of sitting back, wringing their
hands and wishing the good old days of the
video boom were back.
@
The autumn and w i nter round of
exhibitions which begin with the London ·
Previews at the end of this month should be
the most interesting for several years. The
industry is being challenged to scale new
heights. Video is far from dead. The market
has merely levelled out. But the playing
public has become far more discerning
and it will be the people who present the
original games who will reap the harvest,
especially now that stringent measures to
beat the copiers are beginning to bite.
Originality must be the goal of every
sector - video, fruit machines, pinball,
kiddie rides, novelty. With the UK and most
parts of Continental Europe still in the icy
grip of recession money Is scarce and those
In the industry who come up with something
different, something to challenge the
imagination are the ones who are going to
be smiling come the end of next winter.
