New Distributors for EPROM Erasers
Two environmental
temperature handlers for
testing 300 mil DIP
integrated circuit devices
at temperatures of be-
tween -55°C and + 125 °C
are available from Micro-
system Services. Manu-
factured by Thermonics
Incorporated, they are
known as the Model
T-3003 and Model T-3005
Spartan Handlers. One of
their major advantages
over competitive designs
is the ease of access to the
soak /test rail which
allows an operator to very
quickly clear a mechani-
cal jam and get the system
operational again.
The only difference
between the T-3003 and
T-3005 handler is the
number of bins into which
tested ICs can be sorted.
The T-3003 has three out-
put tracks and the T-3005
has five.
Spartan handlers em-
ploy the Thermonics Pre-
cision Temperature For-
cing System. Easily set up
and operated, up to 1,500
devices per hour can be
handled (restricted only
by a required three sec-
ond minimum soak time to
force the device corn-
pletely to the required
temperature). They em-
ploy a forced gas method
for heating and cooling
incoming devices, using
liquid nitrogen as the
base coolant. To prevent
any water or ice forming
externally on the load
board, special built-in
purging facilites are
provided using dry nitro-
gen.
The mechanical parts
of the handler are
operated pneumatically
using air cylinders as a
power source and. since
there are no sharp or
sudden changes in the
path of travel of the
device being tested, the
handler operates virtually
'jam free·. However. in
the event of a jam, the
hinged plastic cover is
opened and the full length
of the soak rail accessed
by releasing three clips. If
the problem is within the
test head area. only two
thumb screws have to be
undone and a clear
plastic cover removed to
gain access. To prevent
ICs falling out of the
gravity feed rail when the
covers are removed, the
handler mounting can be
pivoted to the horizontal
for jam clearance or in-
spection.
There are ten front
panel controlled opera-
ting modes including
'double test on continu-
ity', 'single cycle· , and
'internal cycle ' . The
T-3003 and T-3005 employ
a digital temperature set/
read out indicator and a
temperature error indica-
tor for ease of operation.
In addition to the 300
mil device handlers, Mic-
rosystem Services also
have units capable of
providing the same ser-
vice for 400 and 600 mil
DIP devices.
Microsystem Services
have appointed two new
distributors for the range
of EPROM UV erasers and
for the advanced Data I/O
Model 20A Prom pro-
grammer. The distribu-
tors, Farnell Electronic
Components Limited and
Electroplan Limited, were
selected in view of their
excellent track record.
The UV erasers manu-
factured by Microsystem
Services range from the
MElO, capable of erasing
ten EPROMS simultan-
eously , to the ME90
designed for production
environments that will
erase ninety devices.
Also stocked by Farnell
will be the Millennium
Microsystem Designer.
Microsystem Services are
the exclusive UK agents
for Millennium, who spe-
cialise in microcomputer
development and test
equipment. The designer
is an evaluation tool that
can be employed with a
wide variety of 8 and
16-bit processors.
Commenting on the new
appointments, Jim Knott,
Managing Director of
Microsystem Services,
said: " Since we first
decided to begin manufac-
ture of our own range of
EPROM erasers some
eighteen months ago, the
response from the market
place has been fantastic.
ot only have we beeri
able to make substantial
in-roads in to the UK
market , but our sales
worldwide have been ex-
cellent. Indeed, approxi-
mately 50 % of our pro-
duction so far has been
exported
with a
majority of these going to
the United States.
KEEPING THE CASH SAFE
Camlock Distribution,
well-known to the amuse-
ment trade for their
extensive range of quality
Cam and Switch locks,
have now introduced an
equally large range of
padlocks. These padlocks
are suitable for a great
variety of uses from small
video game cash boxes to
complete bingo units.
The range of padlocks
can be seen at the A TE in
January and includes the
top security tubular
keyed Gematic variable
combination lock which
Leisure Play - November
resists picking and gives
restricted key dupli-
cation.
The padlocks, in brass,
steel and stainless steel
and in sizes ranging from
¾" to the heavy duty
4 ¼ ", are mostly available
from stock.
Camlock Distribution
are members of the East-
bourne-based Carroll
Security
Group
specialists in security
equipment for over 60 instaJJation and main-
years. Their widespread tenance of security equip-
experience
in
the ment extends from simple
r
locks and safes to the
most sophisticated elec-
tronic systems.
