Statement

There is nothing more important
to an editor than loyal readers and
advertisers. But there are also
priorities in an individual's life that
ultimately must be faced. Many, no
MOST of you are not just readers of,
and advertisers in, the magazine,
you are also friends. It may surprise
you to learn that I have faced a
difficult decision—stepping away
from the publishing duties of The
Coin Slot
My role as editor and publisher
has been a challenge, a terrific
training ground, and a source of great
pleasure for me. It obviously required
a substantial amount of my energy
and time. Several other important
projects took up positions on the
back burner for the past few years.
The time has now arrived to either
proceed with one of the other projects
or to release the dream altogether.
My decision is to follow my dream,
and let someone with new ideas
and energy lead The Coin Slot to
even greater heights and dimensions
The new editor and publisher is
not new to The Coin Slot, and she
assures the continuity of the format
and the growth that have been our
hallmark Your new chief is none
A bill for the legalization of slot
machines 25 years or older was
introduced and passed the Senate
Judicial Proceedings Committee of
the Maryland State Legislature re
ported Steve Cohen, our champion
in Maryland. It will be voted on in
the Senate the week of March 14
through 18. This bill changes the
present pre-1941 lawand has been
the object of much effort and work
on the part of Steve. Read the May
issue of The Coin Slot to find out the
results of the Senate vote.
Steve Cohen will extend his help
Slot since May of 1980. Many of the

Kathie Oberer struck
and killed by car
Kathie A Oberer, 29, wife of antique
coin machine collector Gary Oberer,
was struck and killed by an auto
mobile near her home on Winton
Road in Cincinnati, Monday afternoon
March 7th.
In addition to her husband she
leaves two sons, Toby and Joshua,
her parents and four brothers Services
were held at St Bartholomew Church
on Friday, March 11, 1983.
Those of us who knew Kathie will
remember her as a rather quiet lady
who always let her husband have
the limelight. She did handle all the
details for the family, as well as
Gary's business. The Coin Slot ex
tends our deepest sympathies to
Gary and the boys.
