Louisiana Is First
Louisiana is the first state to amend its law to 25
yeara It can be done!
We have been approached by several people to
sponsor changing the law on the federal level. It
sounds terrific, but it would require more than just
token involvement. We need some serious discussion
concerning this matter and our pages are open to just
that.
One suggestion made is that each of us write to one
individual about sponsoring the bill. The impact would
be that all of the letters arrive within two days of one
another. There's one suggestion. Now send us your
suggestions, ideas and comments.

Dear Editor
Reference is made to our recent conversation, in
which I advised you that we adopted a twenty-five year
law at the recent session of the Legislature.
I am enclosing herewith a copy of Act No. 214, which
amended and re-enacted R.S. 15:31.1 (A).
The effect of this legislation was to change the law in
Louisiana from a "pre-1951" law to a twenty-five year
law. This law will take effect on September 10, 1982.
With best regards, I am,
Yours very truly,
Charles Emile Bruneau, Jr.
Recently, we were informed that Louisianna was
making an attempt to change their already existing
collectible law of pre-1950 to a 25 year law. Following is
the information we have received about this legislative
action to date.
Previously, the law read:
§ 31.1 Antique slot machines
A For the purposes of this Section, a slot machine is
an antique if it was manufactured prior to October 1,
1950.

The bill amending this section reads as follows:
Regular Session, 1982
HOUSE BILL NO. 1615
By Messra Bruneau and Bagert and Senator Brinkhaus
AN ACT
To amend and reenact R.S. 15:31.1 (A), relative to
antique slot machines, to provide with respect to the
definition of the term "antique slot machine" as it
applies to the collection and restoration of antique slot
machines not used for gambling purposes, and other
wise to provide with respect thereto.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
Section 1. R.S. 15:31.1 (A) is hereby amended and
reenacted to read as follows:
§ 31.1 Antique slot machines
A. For the purposes of this Section, a slot machine is
an antique if at least twenty-five years have elapsed
since it was manufactured.
Section 2. All laws or parts of laws in conflict

This act amending Louisiana legislation would be an
excellent guide to use in other states that want to
change their laws to be twentyfive year laws. Now that
Louisiana has the ball rolling, The Coin Slot would like
to see collectors in other states work to change their
existing laws to twentyfive year laws across the United
States. Let's not let Louisiana be the only progressive
state in the union.
