STATEMENT
By Rosanna Harris
Our cover this month introduces us to a special
challenge placed before us by a collector who has
been involved in the hobby since its infancy. Dave
Evans has raised an extremely important question and
even challenged us to take positive steps to make
changes. Our hobby is not unlike others in the collecting
field. There are natural ups and downs — growing
periods and leveling off periods.
Those of you who have been collecting/buying/sel
2. We need 1000 more active collectors.
3. We need a precise definition of "antique slot
machine."
4. We need a 25 year law in all 50 states.
5. We need to begin today.
One way we feel that The Coin Slot can be an agent
in helping to develop the collector base is by continuing
to provide information in all of the areas of the coin op
collecting field — slot machines, trade stimulators,
ling coin operated devices for many years have seen
jukeboxes, arcade machines, pinball machines and all
the natural patterns develop. There are many fasci
nating stories of finds in those early years. The ex-
citment still remains, it has just taken a new twist. But
we do have a new challenge facing us. Our overall
number must increase. No vital movement can remain
stationary for long and continue to be a moving force.
Over the past eight months we have heard the same
comment from innumerable people — dealers and
collectors alike — "We need more new people in the
hobbyr^-We afi agree on this fact. Our challenge lies in
how we are going to accomplish a growth pattern in the
number of collectora The Coin Slot is going to accept
the challenge and we propose the following five point
program which will be developed in a series of articles
in this issue.
Program for new growth:
1. We need to get serious about the future.
of the related items. We accept Dave's challenge and
we will send a current issue of The Coin Slot to any
friend who is a beginning collector or just interested in
the coin op field. We want to help you show the new
people that there is a great deal of interest in coin op
collecting; that the hobby is taking a different direction,
but it is ALIVE AND WELL
Turn to page 21 and fill out the coupon. We will send
out a copy of The Coin Slot with your compliments to
any friend, associate or customer. It will be sent on our
regular mailing date of the 20th of the month. Don't
delay taking an active part in supporting the expansion
of the hobby. Fill out the coupon. A coupon will appear
each month this year.
This is our first step. If you have any suggestions or
comments, please call us or write us. After all, this is
your hobby and we need your input.
