P.P. S.
Dear Edward:
Sounds like you're really hooked on this hobby. It happens to
all of us.
Dear Editor
First, for your serial no. update feature, I own a Mills
MYSTERY 5$ play serial no. 367437. This machine is similar
to Marty Roenigk's MYSTERY pictured on page 28 of the July
For sure you've got a Space machine, and the serial 001182
cinches it It's Space machine 1182, or probably the 1,082nd
Space machine made as they generally started serial numbers
at 101. But exceptfor the electricalfeatures for the lights and
the jackpot bell, inside it's still a Pace. No Space manuals or
wiring diagrams seem to have survived, so you're still back to
the Pace manual with a wish-and-by-golly approach to the

1981 Coin Slot in the upper right corner, but like Marty's BLUE
FRONT pictured in the lower right of the same page, the casting
has a token window for a Golden feature below the award card
payout Is it possible that the restorer ofthis machine mismatched
the cabinet and mechanism?
Good luck to you and Bill in your new location. I look forward
Sincerely,
Dear Jerry:
Thanks for the serial number, and special thanks for the
comments on our move. The last month or so have been a real
mess around here and we movedfrom one location to another.
But the results will be great We've expanded, and we've got
more room to grow. So will The Coin Slot.
It might not ha ve been an overeager restorer that slapped that
MYSTERY GOLDEN front on your MYSTERY. The old
operators did that all the time, and the mixing-and-matching
that resulted has led to a lot ofconfusionfor collectors in later
years. But you're right, ifthere's no Gold Awardpayout, and it
isn't on the card, you've got a MYSTERY no matter what
somebody put on for a front
Sincerely,
Editor
