Coin Slot Magazine - #078 - 1981 - August [International Arcade Museum]
Your concernfor the originality ofyourMills SILENT'War
Eagle'* serial 315,283 seems unwarranted A lot ofthe original
castings were rough, and your serial number has never shown
up on an existing machine before (check out the very complete
serial number listings appearing in the new "Volume 3
Illustrated Price Guide to the 100 Most Collectible Slot
Machines" and you'll see, and learn that your number falls
right W with the other SILENT machines) so it doesn't seem it
w^s copied. The MLB numbers also suggest originality.
The interesting machine is your single jackpot MYSTERY,
serial 354,368 with the crinklefinish. The serial solidly places
itin the MYSTERYrun, circa late 1934 or early 1935. It would
have had twojackpots at that time. Obviously it was revamped
at some later point in time with a new single jackpot front
added The crinkle finish may be a clue. Mills revamped
MYSTERY machines early in World War 2 as the CRINKIM
M^UEFRONT. They were made in 1942 before the many other
revampers such as Buckley or Bakerjumped into this business.
You might have the Mills wartime revamp.
Asfar as pricing your Sega Bell machine; that's hard to do.
N$ne of these tow yet shown up in price guides, yet they are
very playable machines and practically identical to a Mills
"Hightop". From the auctions and dealerships we've seen they
##em to be setting as "Rw Room Machines" in the $300 to $700
range, the nicer the machine the higher the price, More and
moreforeign machines are beginning to show up, and no doubt
they too will $et their values andprobably should be included in
figure volunips ofVAn Illustrated Price Guide to the 100 Most
Collectible Slot Abachines* as they certainly are collectibles.
thafs a very kind offer to send your last two gumball
machine instructions to whoever wants them for a stamped
envelope, so ifany ofyou out there are into gumball machines,
r envelope off to Lorry. Fast!
