Surprise! We pulled a fast one on all of you by going full
size without any prior discussion. Many of you have
indicated that you enjoyed the "enlarged" Coin Slot of last
year. We felt that it was a natural sign of our growth and
desire to serve you in our special interest area. Again this
year we have experienced a natural progression to this full
size issue. We did so without a lot of fanfare because we
are certain that you felt as we did that it was only a matter
of time until this came about. There will be a number of
changes which you will note, but perhaps one of the most
enjoyable and most appreciated is — NO MORE STAPLE!!
The monthly struggle and tug of war is over.
On to a more serious note. Last month we briefly
discussed expiration dates and the advantage of early
renewal. We'd like to make a special offer to our current
subscribers. You may have noticed an increase in the
subscription rate on the inside cover. Because we feel that
you are an important part of our magazine we would like to
extend a special rate to you for your early renewals. Any
subscriber in the U.S. having an expiration of 5/80 through
12/80 may take advantage of the early renewal in the
amount of $22.50, a savings of 10% over the new subscrip
tion rate. There is only one stipulation. Your renewal must
be postmarked no later than June 25th. To our subscribers
outside the United States we will offer a 10% savings also.
Just send us your renewal, $36.00 and make sure that it is
postmarked no later than July 16th. We sincerely hope that
many of you will take advantage of this money saving
offer.
We regret that we are going to suspend the free ads
which we have offered to you in the past. We were happy to
extend this service to you, but it did not work as smoothly
as one might have hoped. In our new organization we do
not find the flexibility which we once enjoyed. However,
we find that there are more pros than cons and we are
certain that we will be a greater source of information for
you under our new organization. Thank you for your past
cooperation and involvement in the free advertising; we
now ask you to take advantage of our advertising at the
very reasonable rates published on the inside cover.
This has been an exciting year and it must be a sign that
there are even better times ahead. We feel that our
magazine can only become better because of your
enthusiasm and interest. We have some new avenues
opening as far as interest articles are concerned and we're
sure you'll enjoy the new features.
Please continue to give us your more than welcome
comments in your letters. We use them to full advantage
and take all comments in a constructive vein.
Next month's issue will cover the auction in Las Vegas.
We hope to see many of you there.

wood case Baker's Racers is light brown with shaded
black corners. The wood only appears to be walnut, in fact, this
one was stained walnut before final finish. The wood is pine and
poplar. The poplar wood would pass for walnut when stained.
Anyway, I just got this machine in and the side end panels are

Actually, that's the original Pace PACES RACES serial
suggesting production around 1941. Baker revamped it to create
his own machine.
As for parts, that's tough. But maybe not. Some readers of
The Coin Slot may be able to help you, so if your note is
published and we ask them to contact you by 'phone', who
knows what might show up.
As for maintenance, Coin Slot Guide No. 16 which just came
off the press might help.
