Q. I've got a Caille TIGER, but I've never
seen anything else like it.

This is a machine that apparently has
never been cataloged, or at least it is
not shown in the dozen or so different
Caille catalogs available for the years
1902- 1912.
Rather than an early ma
chine it appears to be the end of the
line for Caille cast iron. There are rea
sons for this assumption.
The first single-reelers, made by Paupa & Hockriem, and later Mills, and
Caille, had the levers on the front.

Later they all had them front right. With the success of the Mills
LIBERTY BELL, first introduced in 1909, and the subsequent versions by
Caille and Watling, the side pull handle became the most popular actua
tion device.
The Caille 1912 catalog shows the firm's LIBERTY BELL models with
the TIGER and SPECIAL TIGER with front right levers.
