A photo of the rare cast-iron "ON THE LEVEL" machine with curved
glass top holding five dice. On each side is a bear standing on three
dice. There are six coin slots in front. When a coin is inserted, it
rolls down a gilded incline at back (after lever is actuated) and drops
in odds slot. Winning combinations are shown here.

QUESTIONS FROM READERS:.
1. There were two (or more ?) machines that looked virtually identical to
the Mills DEWEY and CHICAGO identified as:
HULS DEWEY, THE HULL DEWEY, HULL'S CHICAGO
I've checked every collection I can find for paper materials, as well as the
directories for Chicago, Detroit, and elsewhere for the years 1885 through
1928 and can't find a HULS or HULL as a producer. I suspect that these
were "private brands"made by Mills, but can't prove it. So... who made
the HULL or HULS machines ?
2. Virtually all machines had nicknames (i. e. the Mills MYSTERY was the
Blue Front, etc.), and quite often in interviews with the old operators I'll
catch the name of a machine without knowing exactly what it is. Perhaps
some of the old operators or early collectors could identify the following
