H e says th e fruit vendors have proved
profitable in railway terminals, bus stations,
office buildings, fa ctorie , schools and simi·
lar loca tions.
Th e ven dor has been tested over a period
of two years, de Graff ta tes, and its appea l
to th e co nsum er is a proven fact. T en
machin es were tested in th e Greater Los
Angeles area during the 2·yea r period , with
th e average gross in come showing to be over
3,200 per unit per year. ome loca tion s
have also shown ve ry h igh earnin gs, in-
cluding a university location that grossed
8,750 for one machine in a yea r's test, and
a YMCA spot that gros ed over $3,300 in
a year for one machin e.
From th e operator's standpoint, vending
fruit offers advantage i n controlling the
profit margin that may not be found in other
vendors. Also, th ere are seaso nal fruits th at
may be used instead of a ppl es durin g th e
periods in which such fruits sell fa st. Apples
are th e stapl e product for th e vendors and
ap pl es that se ll for a nickel may be pur·
chased fo r two cents or less, whi le fruit
selling for 10 ce nts ma y be purcha sed for
three to four cents.
Th e vendor i select ive, with four choi ces,

BOTTLERS HEAR EXPERTS
ON SOFT DRINK VENDORS
DETROIT- Rowe Manufacturing Co.,
Inc., introduced its new 2-flavor bottle
vendor at th e 31 t a nnual convention of th e
bottlin g industry, sponsored by the Amer·
ican Bottlers of Carbon a ted Beverages, held
Nov. 14·17 h ere. ews of th e vendor and
also of th e Rowe milk vendor had appeared
in news pap ers ea rl ier. Th e bottle vendor is
said to be simi lar to th e milk vendor which
Rowe has developed for its own operation s.
(Rowe bottle ve ndor is described in , New
Ma chines column).
Rowe was one of the fiv e manufa cturers
showing bottle vendors and thi s number
would not indi ca te a great surge to vendors,
in view of the many manufacturers th a t
are producing bottle machines. But th ese
are what may be called inde pendent manu-
fa cture rs of bottle ve ndors, th e great pro-
motion a nd inte rest in bottle vendors in
recent years havin g been spon sored. by
