Denver
It appears that the coin machine husin ess
is to be afforded a wide fi eld for expansion,
e pecially now that the vacation season ha s
opened a nd resort locati ons are exp ected to
do a record busin ess durin g the summer
months. The June influx of tourists has
alrea dy begun and numerous conventions
are slated for Denver. Six major conven·
tions made a rather heavy schedule of events
for th e Mil e·High city in on e week.
Co lorado Sprin gs in particular appears to
be profit ing from the touri st trade this year,
especially coin machin es in taverns and
touri st ca mps. If the ma ny vacationist plan·
ning to come to that city put in a n appear·
ance, the place will be swamped durin g the
summ er.
Under Colorado law, gamblin g with "slot
machines" or pin ball ma chines-or with
any other form of " pay·off" gamblin g rna·
chines- i prohibited in puhlic places. It
is r eported, however, tha t some of th e more
ela borate machines, which ma y have cost
as mu ch as 2,000 each, have been found
in El Paso county taverns and night clubs.
There has been some controversy about
legalizin g of "slot machin es" in Colorado,
as it is claimed th e revenue from th eir op er·
ation would be a considerable amount for
th e state as well as f or the federal govern·
ment, which receives a 100 yearly federal
tax on each of the machin es.
