310 Andy Russell
YOU ARE EVERYTHING TO ME
IV FT)
THE MORE I GO OUT WITH SOME-
BODY ELSE (V FT)
Stock up heavily on this one. It packs a double-
barrelled load of coin . Andy, backed ably by
Paul Weston's Ork, delivers two top-flight ballads
in socko style.

311 King Cole Trio
THE CHRISTMAS SONG (V FT)
IN THE COOL OF EVENING (Inst,)
First side should go pretty well during the
holiday season ; it has good lyrics, warmth, and a
passable melody. Side Two is disappointing and
not recommended unless the liKing Cole" name
on the title strip is a coin stimulator. It has too
many lags and tone-downs and hits 50 many
whispery depths that it ,almost falls off the tray.

WHY DID I HAVE TO FALL IN LOVE
WITH YOU? (V FT)
JE T'ADORE (V FTI
The " Voice With the Smi e" finds an ideally
suited vehicle on IIAII and goes all-out in reining
in a coin-puller. It's a bright, uplifting ballad ,
with the rendition ably abetted by The Sports-
men. The smile goes out of Side Two and so does
the popularity of the number_ Jack does his best
with what he has to work with, but the song
hasn't got much to work with.

313 Ski+ch Henderson
IF I'M LUCKY (FT Ve)
SAVE ME A DRE~M (FT VC)
A fluid, easy-liItin9 , relaxing pair, smoothly
embellished by the planoing of Head Man Hen-
derson .

314 Cootie Williams
I MAY BE EASY, BUT I'M NO FOOL
(Blues VC)
AIN'T GOT NO BLUES TODAY
(Blues VC)
The opener is weak in spots, lackadaisical in
others. A too-blue blues . The flip is better fare .
Bob Merrell delivers a novel, appropriate vocal
and the ork picks up the loose ends. Race spots
should like " B."
315 Wally Fowler
DESE BONES A-GWINNA
AGAIN (V Spiritual)
ON THE JERICHO ROAD
(V Spiritual)
RISE
Geared for race spots and church-conscious
locations. With a wider location appeal, these
would rate higher because Fowler's Oak Ridge
Quartet produces an unbeatable blend of match-
less harmony.

316 Johnny Mercer and The Pied
Pipers
A GAL IN CALICO (V FT)
WINTER WONDERLAND (V FT)
Slow-singing, easy-going Johnny Mercer teamed
with the Pipers and Paul Weston-add them to-
gether and record them on one disc and you have
a click hit. These two tunes are made to order
for Mercer's inimitable style. They are informal,
sweet and smooth. First is from the picture "The
Time, The Place, and The Girl. " Weston 's ar·
rangement on "B" is a gem.

317 Jo Stafford
PROMISE (V FT)
THIS TIME IV FT)
Despite the fact that it takes Stafford time to
warm up (she begins to roll on the second chorus
of "A" and unlimbers a full -throated rendition
on "B") these two are money-catchers. First is a
cute tune, feathery light and zesty. Second is
soul-stirring and movin9' Paul Weston handles
the musical props with skill.

318 Alvino Rey
GUITAR BOOGIE (Inst.)
THERE IS NO BREEZE (To Cool the
Flame of Love) (V FT)
Two sure-fire phono shots. Topper contains all
the fine nuances of Alvino's educated guitar. It's
hip-swaying, shoulder-weaving, solid-se.n ding stuff.
Spinover is treated as light as a sponge cake .
The melody flows pleasantly, with deft guitar
touches by the maestro dressing the tune in
attractive garb.

WHITE CHRISTMAS (V FT)
SILENT NIGHT (V Hymn)
Holiday naturals. Can't fail to give tone-arms
throughout the nation brisk work-outs. The Lyn
Murray Singers and Paul Weston's Ork perform
.
in fine style. Stafford's singing is acceptable.

320 Julia Lee
JULIA'S BLUES (V Blues)
WHEN A WOMAN LOVES A MAN
. (V Blues)
Prediction: Julia Lee is heading for the Big
Time Blues. She has a clear, personable voice and
a distinctive style . Top one has a solid, swingy
beat which pulls listeners out of the usual blues
doldrums. Under-two is slowe. but moves. Thesa
are a cinch for race spots.

321 Wesley Tuttle
I'VE LOVED YOU TOO LONG TO
FORGET (V HB)
NO CHILDREN ALLOWED (V HB)
Along with a plaintive, heart-tugging melody,
Side Two delivers a sermon and philosophy that
is so right and undeniable that it will win listene.
plaudits throughout the nation. Thousands of home
and apartment hunters will take time out from
their toils to relax and nod over it. Tuttle, who
performs not too adroitly on "A" vocals, really
gets in the mood and grooves out a neat waxing .
Topper is rendered in toe-tapping tempo, with the
Texas Stars inserting some neat Instrumental
bandyings.

Another Mercer-Pipers-Weston smash offering.
Cleverly done, bright and chirpy, these cannot
fail to swing phono grosses to high peaks.

304 The King Cole Trio
THE BEST MAN (V FT)
(I Love You) FOR SENTIMENTAL
REASONS lV FT)
These two lack an Intangible something. Both
are pretty well done. First is a tightly compact
novelty with punch lyrics; second is slow-drawn
and sentimental. The King's vocal stints are ex-
cellent.

305 Billy Butterfield
SOONER OR LATER (FT VC)
STAR DUST (Inst.)
Topper is deftly done, cleverly arranged, well-
paced, high-spotted by the provocatively appeal-
Ing vocal of winsome Pat O'Connor, who is. defi.
nitely going places. Under-side is the immortal
Carmichael ballad, showcased by the stirring
trumpe.t of Billy Butterfield.
