th e well developed ports on the Coast after
th e war. Eaetern manufacturers are rapidly
grabbin g up industrial cities with an eye
to th e establi shm ent of manufacturing units
in the West to care for th e export trade cer-
tain to develop.
Th e Coin Machine Industry is not out in
the cold insofar as industrial planning is
concerned on the Coast. Coin machine plans
are on the draftin g boa rds of many a war
plant at this very moment and countless sur-
prises await the Industry when a slackenin g
of war goods manufacturing will permit re-
conversion in thi s area. Some manufactur-
ers have already passed out information on
their plans insofar as this industry is con-
cern ed but the major portion have been
content to gather th eir statistical data, in-
dustry studies and prepare th eir plans se-
cretly.
Durin g November a well-known trade
paper stated that " Predictions are being
made in busin ess circles that eventually
th e West Coast may become the leadin g
industri al center of the United States
when the P acifi c area develops after the
war. If so, it may be that in future years,
th e coin machine manufacturin g industry
will also move in that "direction."
Already th e Coast is on its way as a
major produ ce r of phonograph records for
automati c phonographs. All of the majors,
and dozens of smaller pla nts, are already
turnin g out discs by the thousands. Holly-
wood is the accepted entertainment capi-
tol of the world and film s for coin-operated
movie machines and various types of view-
ing devices will be produced mainly in th e
West.
Definitely th e Coast is slated to become

an important ma nu fac turing area in th e
coin machine fi eld in the years after the
war. In years past many acce pted machines
of the business today saw their birth and
initial manufacture in th e West. This will
happen again and with the expa nded in -.
dustrial fa cilities, supplies, labor and mar-
kets on all sides, the Coast will bid fai r
to becoming an important fa ctor in the
manufacturing phase of the industry.
