The soldiers were waitin g imminent

one of th e soldiers called out to a passin g
khaki clad fi gure : " H ey, buddy, got a
match ?" A light was fort hcoming and as
he stll'rted to th ank him for it, th e private
was horrifi ed to see the man was a three
star general.
"I beg your pardon, sir," he said, sal ut·
in g smartly. "I didn 't know you were a
general it's so da rk 1-
" Th at's all right son," replied th e gen·
eral. "J ust thank God I wasn't a second
lieutenant."
