FORT WORTH- The drouth in Texas
has cut back th e peanut yield from the
average prodtlction of 26 bushels per acre
to 12 and 18 bushels per acre. However,
due to price rise, the Texas peanut crop
will be a very valuable on e. P eanut rna ·
chine operators a re a nxious for the new
crop to hit the roasters' ove ns as the old
crop, which they are now having to use,
goes stale quickly. Op erators report good
busin ess on all th eir goober vend ers with
the past summer season being u nusually
brisk.
Coin machine mechanics are a scarce
item in these parts and a good live·wire
serviceman can almost write his own salary
figure. According to one arcade manager
the mechanic problem is the most out·
standing at this time.
Ernest Walker, well known coinman of
this area, is planning to open on Main
street, Ft. Worth, a co mbination coin·
operated merchandise store a..nd arcade.
Walker says he will install both merchan·
dise venders a nd all types of amusement
devi ces. H e plans to have the place op·
erating in Septemb er.
Operator Bob Cowan, has moved into his

perience from away back when the first
coin operated phonos showed up. He also
operates one of th e "BETTY" systems in
Ft. Worth.
Mrs. Johnny Wilson, Sr., form er head of
the Ft. Worth Novelty Co., extensive op-
erators of music in the Ft. Worth area,
has sold the entire business of her firm and
has retired from the op erating game. The
Ft. Worth Novelty Co. was one of th e
pioneer operating organizations of the
south, havin g been organized some twenty.
five years ago by the late Johnny Wilson.

mer head of Western Products, Inc., amuse.

stated th at T exas is the place to be. Said
Jimmie: " Believe me Texas is th e place to
loaf a nd enjoy life itself. Of course t here
i'n no night life here as you know. You can
buy all the whi skey you want but not a
drink for they don' t allow cocktails or any
mixed drinks and all th e bars can serve
is beer. That naturally limits on e's activ-
ity in one sense but you and your friends
get to gether at each others homes and
really have some swell times. Th en too, th e
hu nting is great and that is wha t a ppeals
to me-a long hunting season and pl enty
to h unt.
"As yet I don' t know what I will do
after the war but unless somethin g awfully
good comes up I am goin g to live my re-
mainin g days here in good old Texas-but
like a woman, I can change my mind easy."
