New stickers of the Phonograph Opera·
tors Association, to be used on the thous·
ands of music machines in this area, will
be made· up with a patriotic motif and will
also bear the inscription, "Buy Defense
Bonds and Stamps".
Serviceman Morton Taub of Sam Wein·
stein's Mutual Music passed out cigars this
month in celebration of the birth of a girl
to his wife.
Local tradesmen were surprised to hear
of the dissolution of the long-time partner-
ship maintained by Dave Margolin and Joe
Eisen who operated here as the Penn Coin-
O-Matic Co., distributors for the Wurlitzer
phonographs.
A move of another type however was
taken by the equally long-time partner-
ship of Frank Engel and Mike Spector who
have purchased the Fairmore Music Co.
from George Fairchild, thus increasing
their holdings in this industry.

' ing a bang-up job in persuading operators
to place the Charlie Spivak recording of

branching out into the photographic sup·

hopes will become a chain. . • . Eddie
Heller, former Abe Lyman record promo-

his Fort Eustis, Va., residence where he is
serving Uncle Sammy as a private. The
machine was contributed by Sam Stern in
the first of what he expects to become a
regular contribution to the soldiers. . . .
Newest recruits from the Raymond Rosen

vacationing in Alabama, and Ed Hughes,
stationed at the Marine's Paris Island,
North Carolina, while Dave Carmosin of
the sales promotion department expects to
depart shortly. Motor Parts Co. contribu-
tion to ihe national defense are record

LOS ANGELES-Early in the morning,
Sunday, June 7th, "Who Dat" tasted water
, and carried its proud parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Gutshall, of the Gutshall Distributing
Co., on a ride around Big Bear in the Calif-
ornia Sierras.
"Who Dat" is a brand new, beautiful
speed boat, 18 foot in length, and of Krem-
craft build, which the Gutshalls acquired
just before they left for a month's vacation
at Big Bear lake on June 6th.
"Who Dat" can easily accomodate six
people, is equipped with all the accessori'es
Jack could pour upon it, and has a car radio
that gives better-than· shore music while
cruising the still waters of California's in·
land lakes. "Who Dat" has a specially
built trailer to transport it wherever the
Gutshalls desire to go and all in all it's
one of the trimmest outfits we've looked at
in a long time.
Why the name "Who Dat" is something
hundreds of the Gutshall friends will be
asking in the months ahead and so to help
them we give this printed explanation. "Who
Dat" became a popular exclamation at the
Gutshall offices and showrooms when some-
one piped from one of the remote corners of
the establishment. So entrenched did the
southern talk become that it became sort
of a general answer to any question parried
by anyone unseen. So even though the new
cruiser bears the name "Who Dat", folks
who know boats will naturally say "That
isn't a question for it's really a SWELL
boat!"
Jack plans on going into aquaplaning in
a big way and has the necessary equipment
and is ready to take his first beating. THE
REVIEW offered to cover his first perform.
ances and record them on motion picture
film provided we had the rights to re-sell
the prints to Hal Roach, Mack Sennett, or
some other comedy·producer. Jack said
"No."
While at Big Bear the Gutshalls rented
a cabin from Ray Reynolds who, in addition
to his cabin business, has most of the coin
operated devices at this popular Southern
California resort.
Parr Picks 'Em
LOS ANGELES-When it comes to un·
usual display cards the genius of William
"Bud" Parr, head of General Music in
Los Angeles and San Francisco, really
gives a flare.
Currently Bud is passing out a master·
piece deali'ng with chiselers. Says the
attractive 9 x 11 inch piece: "Never Speak
ill of Chiselers for God in his infinite
wisdom made them. He made them the
same as he made rats, snakes, lice and other
despicable objects. Some day he may tell
us why-but until then-we don't know."
Second card, of the same size, gives 16
tips of Bar Room Etiquette which smacks
of a bit of burlesque. For example, num·
ber 9 said: "Knock your ashes on the bar
instead of the ash tray"; number 11: "Af·
ter consuming drink, leave empty glass on
bar and go to the rest room. When you
return ask him what the hell he did with
your drink-sometimes it works."
These clever cards are finding ' welcome
spots and Bud is happy over the reception
given them. "When better gags are offered
-
Parr will have 'em" might well be
the slogan of General Music's prexy.
