Marines. This is the second time Lamon
has been hit by Jap fire.
The Laymons are finding life near the
ocean increasingly fascinating. In fact it's
hard to leave in the mornings to come
downtown for the business day.
Mac Sanders is working the Arcade busi·
ness heavily and doing very well. If any,
body can convince anybody that they have
the equipment to buy and use, it's Mac. A
square shooter , . . month in and month
out . . . that's Mac.
Fred Gaunt has no worries. His Trojan
Novelty Co, is moving along at a rapid pace,
thanks to REVIEW advertising and a set pol-
icy of making every customer so' satisfied
he'll come back again, and again.
Bill Markham, record foreman at Ray
Thomas Co., received his A·l and notice of
induction for July 13th.
At Southwestern Veriding Jimmy Jones
and Harry Kaplan fill a full schedule every
day taking care of the requirements of
Western operators. On July 7th A. Berman,
who operates Playland in Bakersfield, made
his headquarters at Kaplan's as he picked
up new equipment for his Arcade.

Rock-Ola Appoints Pollard
CHICAGO-The appointment of M. A.
Pollard & Co. of San Francisco has just

been announced as exclusive factory dis-
tributors for northern California for the
Rock-Ola line.
1. F. Webb, Rock-Ola Vice President in
charge of phonograph division, spent sev-
eral weeks in northern California during
the month of June, concluding arrange-
ments for the smooth distribution of Rock-
Ola music equipment under the new set-up.
The San Francisco office will be in charge
of George Bennett, who in the past has been
associated with Rex Vending Company as
General Manager, and is well known among
the trade.
The Pollard organization is headed by
Maurice Pollard, who started in tbe coin
machine business in San Francisco ten
years ago. The organization employs over 20
people in the distribution of games and
phonographs.
In speaking of the Rock·Ola appointment,
Pollard stated, "We are planning to func-
tion in every way as a full-fledged phono-
graph distributor for the duration, and for
the good times ahead of our industry after
the war.
"Although the Rock-Ola factory is all-out
for war production and cannot manufacture
new equipment at the present time, we haye
warehoused quantities of the outstanding
1942 line of phonographs and accessories, so
that we can continue serving our customers
for some time to come."
Tax Clause Helps Operators
NEW YORK.-Charles Fleischmann, of
Baltimore Salesbook Co., is responsible
for the fact that the newest of the firm's
collection books-the Handyset Location
Agreement-incorporates a tax clause to
benefit operators under present tax con-
ditions.
' Fleischmann says: "Our Handyset Loca-
tion Agreement not only antici'pated the
possibility of increased taxation but was
so arranged that the operators who signed
their locations to this agreement are now
fully protec,t ed on the payment of this tax
with their location owners.
"The paragraph that saved those op-
erators who have already signed their loca-
tions, and will help others who promptly
get them signed, is paragraph 6 which
says 'In the event that any law now existing
or which may hereafter be passed by any
lawful authority shall require the payment
of any license fees, taxes or other charges
on account of the use or operation of said
equipment, said charges shall be paid by
the operator but the amount thereof shall
be borne equally by the parties hereto and
the operator, shall be entitled to deduct
the location owner's share of such charge
from any sums thereafter due the location
owner pursuant thereto, provided, however,
that in the event any such change shall
make the operation of such machine un-
profitable the operator may upon - days'
notice to the location owner, terminate
this agreement."
