New Model Announced
By Notional, Vend.~~r
LOS ANGELES-E. C. McNeil, western
sales representative for National Vendors,
Inc" believes he has reason to be happy
again, for his com pan)' has imnounced the
start of production Oll a new Defense Model
cigarette vendor.
Declares McNeil, "Of course our pro-
duction will be curtailed at least 50 per
cent, but by eliminating all candy machine
models and concentrating all . _material
which will be available to us under the
new priority rulings, we hope to manu-
facture enough units to come pretty close
to taking good care of our established
customers on cigarette machines during
1942. Our factory is cooperating . 100 per
cent with the Priority Board in Washing-
ton, and is doing everything possible to
aid in the solution of defense problems_"
Modernistic trend of the new,.m,oj1el will
eliminate the use of all forbidd&n materials,
such as aluminum, chromium, copper,
nickel, stainless steel, lead, zinc, tin and
alnico_ Engineers and designers are said to
have created a new cabinet of steel and
plastic only, which is both eye-appealing
and of the high quality standard always
maintained by National.
Save for a few improvements, the mech-
anism, which has proved satisfactory for
the past five years, has not been changed_
Features of the new model include central
delivery system, a side door in the cabinet
opening to allow easy access to slug re-
jector mechanism, and a single opening
,for coins using the new-style divider slug
''rejector.
Manufacture of all candy machines has
been discontinued for the duration, and the
cigarette machine will be available · only in
the nine-column model. Neither price nor
deliveries are guaranteed . for any length
of time, but, like other manufacturers, Na-
tional hopes to go through the year under
the curtailed program set up by the Priority
Board_
,"I want to take this opportunity of
thanking all my friends and . customers in
the Western states for the nice business
and support they have given me these past
'several years," McNeil states. "I hope we
will continue to merit your confidence and
patronage in the future_ We of the National
organization will continue to give you the
best service we can under present economic
conditions, and if occasionally we get be-
hind on deliveries, please ' know we are
doing our best,"

NEW YORK-Because of its fight with
the broadcasters, according to information
from BoxofJice, ASCAP's distribution to
writers for 1941 will be about $4,500,000
less than the previous year. President Gene
:Buck reported at the annual meeting, early
in December, that operating expenses in-
creased $600,000 to a total of $1,600,000 for
the year_ A 12-man board has been ap-
pointed by Buck to reconsider allocations
to members; six publishers are ' in this
