Universal Employees
Have Christmas Porly
Values That Can't
Be Outweighed
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Food, drinks,
presents, music, and a real, live Santa. Claus
were feat ured in the fifth annual Christmas
party of Universal Mfg. Co. for its em-
ployees. The Christmas tree, bedecked with
presents from one employee to another,
also marked the distribution to more than
140 workers of a two-pound box of candied
stuffed-fruit as Universal's gift. Though
General Manager Berkowitz ind icated next
year's dinner might call for hamburgers,
this Christmas celebration-because it was
the fifth-saw an abundant supply of tur-
key given everyone.
"Even if we should have to serve ham-
burger next year," Berkowitz declared,
"we'll still be in there pi tching and con-
tinuing to improve our plant, our products,
and to enlarge our clientele. You can de-
pend on another thing, too-we'll be pulling
for Uncle Sam. Universal personnel has a

Commenting on the year ahead, Berko-
witz reported his firm was entirely prepared
for the display at the Chicago Show when
word of its cancellation came_ As a result,
he indicated, Universal customers will con-
tinue to receive "the same wide-awake
progressive ideas always displayed by us
at these Shows. We need only to point to
the 20 brand new .deals we now have avail-
able, to prove this is a fact. Universal did
not make new deals because of needed
business; we are far behind on orders which
continue to pour into OUf office. But it is
our policy to keep our clientele supplied
with new ideas that bring new in terest to
players and locations alike."

REMEMBER . PEARL BARBOR
SAN FRANCISCO - With the entire
membership of the Amusement Merchants'
Association eager to do their part in the
present war situation, the initial step in the
Association's participation program of
working in conjunction with the Civilian
Defense Council has bl' .. n taken by Man-
aging Director Sidney Mackin with advice
to Governor Culbert L. Olson, San Fran-
cisco's Mayor Angelo J. Rossi, Chief of
Police Charles W. Dullea, and Civilian De-
fense Council Coordinator Eric Cullenward.
Mackin's letter declared that at the last
meeting of the Association's board of di-
rectors he was instructed to offer the facili-
ties 'of the organization and its entire mem-
bership for use of the Council. It further
advised of the distribution of a bulletin of
instructions to some 1500 small retail mer-
chants the majority of whom posted the
information in a prominent place.
Bulletins gave a poi'nt-by-point outline of
instructions for what to do in the event of
air raids, and instructions of procedure in
the case of injury, listing and giving ad-
dresses and telephone numbers of emer-
gency hospitals, medical aid centers, out-
patient departments.
A letter accompanying the bulletin
stressed the need for 100% cooperation and
stressed the warning that "One careless in-
fraction of the rules could bring a seriolls
disaster to our city."
