Here's a ' way every opera tor of
penny and 5·cent vending machines,
phonographs, and amusement rna ·
chines of eve ry typ e can contribute
substantially towa rd winning the wa r.
The re a r e two simple rules to follow :
1. Collect the p e nnies a nd nick els
from your machines as fre·
quently a s fea sible - oftener
tha n in the past if p ossible .
2. Deposit these p ennies a nd
nickels in the bank with the
least ·possible d e lay, ~o as not
to hold the m in your posses·

T,he minting o f pennies a nd nickels

normal conditions requires substantia l
quantities of nick el a nd coppe r , both
of which are urg ently n eeded in the
production o f wa r mate rials.
Nic kel, m ost of which is imported
f rom Cana da , is particula rly importa nt

Copper is importa nt in brass sh ell

With the incr eased number of p eo·

wa r effort, the demand f o r pennies a nd

other h a nd, production of these coins
during the past two year s has b een

H e r e is a very d efinite a nd con cr e te
way in which ever y ope r a tor can h el p

SEATTLE
SEATTLE (RC)-A pretty fa ir word·
manipulator named Alfred Tennyson once
said: "Th e clock beats out the little lives
of men." After what ha ppened last month ,
it would be quite appropriate to alter this
quotation to read: "Th e clock beat Gale
Thompson out of $45, his tool kit, keys and
automobile."
Here is a minute·by·minute account of
the Thompson debacle. 7 :25-Gale parked
in front of a location. 7 :26-The place ap·
peared to be closed, so Gale fi gured he
would have a qui ck look·see. It would be
a waste of tim e lockin g his vehicle as he
would be only a few yards away. So leaving
the key in the igni tioll and $45 in buffalo
pieces plus all his equipment in the car~
Gale tri ed th e door and found it open. "I'll
just speak a word to the proprietor and b e
right back," he told himself. 7 :29- Gale
had s poken his "word" plus a few more
not on the schedule and headed for h is
automobi le. The little man who wasn' t
there didn't have a thing on hi s coupe.

blonde Beulah is wri ting finis to her three·
