RONALD PATRICK
SAN FRANCISCO (RC)-Much doing
in the automatic amusement world. Pin
games are reachin g a new all-time hi gh ,n
play and locations. Coin music continues
in stride.
Distributors and operators of pin games
have but one principal worry-enough stock
to cover th e heavy demand. All makes are
receiving a share in the run ; however,
some of the top name b rands seem to be
maintaining a margin of prefer ence.
T he sta te automati c games location
being reviewed in Sacramento is causing
somethin g of a stir. Most opinion is that
bill will be quashed on th e basis of its
generally obvious absurdity. If there is any
serious doubt as to the development, it cer-
tainly isn' t bein g allowed to change th e
pace of 'Frisco activity.
A music tax has raised its head in Oak-
land- but, George Bates, the bi'g timbered
'end' man for the Eastbay league, says it's
nothin g th at needs to raise a nybody's tem-
perature. And George is the man to know.
Warren Taylor for Mills Novelty in Oak-
land fairly bursts with enthusiasm over the
biz attendan t their voluminous lin es. More-
over, a small but select group of first
zealots are pi cking up 'Soundies' as quickly
the local crew can lay their hands to them.
Another Taylor 'toppie' i's their conn ection
with P ackard P la-Mors on wall and bar box
equ ipment. They are specially rigged to
ti e in with the Mills Empress line.
Deloss Osborn, S.F.'s Packard P ia-Mor
distributor for Northern California, has
been doing a land office business. In some
towns, such as Pittsburg and Tracy, Deloss
has what may almost literally be describ ed
as an 'exclusive'.
Wolf of Wolf Sales is back from hi s
Mexico trip. I t was completely successful.
F eature news is that Wolf Western has
annexed Arizona alon g with Utah, Wyom-
ing; New Mexico a nd Colorado for Wur-
litzer distributorship.
Regional Wurlitzer franchise is consoli-
dated with Wurgler's Cal. Simplex organi-
zation. Sales are up and u p and up. Need
more be said. Wurgler is East at present
where major plans are bein g readi ed at the
fa ctory headquarters for so me heavy an-
nouncements to follow.
Lou Wolcher, Advance Au tomati c's major
domo, has been on an extended tour East.
We say tour advisedly. Lou gets business
don e, but we know that th ere isn't enough
business in th e country to keep him defi-
ni't ely a t a desk for more than ten days.
Hence you can be right sure that so meth ing
akin to Saroyan's "Time of Your Li fe" ex-
plains to hold over. In cidentally, word is
that Lou air-stops in Detroit on the way
home to select a custom Cadillac. Another
red one?

the top records whi ch every preceding
quarter does to the last one. A good reason
this ti'me is th e very, very new Seeburg.
' Frisca ns like it. Customers like it. Loca-
tions like it. And that says it !
Al Armos and Ed Heinle, key greeters at
the Golden Gate Novelty are taking the
stride in business in stride--which is busi-
ness in STRIDE. Al is my pitch for one
of the first th ree men in any pin man's
league.
Morrie Pollard is a hard man to find, but
when you find him you KNOW you are
talkin g to a man. I say that he's hard to
find because he stays on his beat- which
means all California-and no little part
outside the state. His company is called
Map Sales, properly too, from th e numb er
of places on th e ma p that hear from him.
J ack Moore is a fi gure that means busi-
ness in the co in estate. And 'fore' hand in
the Moore manor is Johnni e Ruggiero. Usu-
ally Johnnie is busy as hell- bu t drops
down the corner for a drink- just to relax
a bit .. . and winds up with a double order
in his vest ( whidi still stays double after
the s pirit exub erance wears off). There's
only ONE Johnnie-even when you begin

seeing in three.

A dear old lady r eturnin g from a trip
wi th her son-in-law in his new car, told
her husband that they have greatly im-
proved autos. She said that they were riding
along and the young man said that the
engine was missing.
