1. Vending apparatus comprising a carrier hav•
ing a plurality of releasable means for holding
items of merchandise, said means bein~ arranged
in vertical series, which series are diSJ?OSed in
circumferential relationship about a vertical axis
with the corresponding positioned holding means
of each series being in common horizontal planes,
means for rotating said carrier to bring any selected
series of holding means into operative relation
with respect to a discharge point, releasing means
comprising a rotatable and reciprocable member
perpendicularly intersecting said horizontal planes·,
a series of tripping elements on said member ex-
tending laterally therefrom and longitudinally
spaced at distances equal to the distances apart of
said horizontal planes, said tripping elements being
arranged so that no two or more are in vertical
alignment, the paths of rotation of said tripping
elements inters·e cting a vertical line passing through
such series of releasable holding means as may be
in operative relation to said discharge point, said
member being normally in a position of reciproca-
tion in which said tripping elements are out of
said horizontal planes, means for rotating said
member to bring a selected one of said tripping
elements· into said vertical line, and means for

tainer having a dispensin_g opening in the top
thereof; an article container mounted for nor-
mal free rotation on a spindle in said container;
an operating rod operatively interconnected with
said spindle and extending outwardly from said
container, whereby it may be manua lly operated
to rotate said article container to s·electively posi-
tioned articles carried on said article container in
alignment beneath said dispensing opening; a
closure member hinged to said container and
norma lly secured in closed position with respect
to said dispensing opening; coin control means
operable by said closure member during the first
portion of its movement toward the open position
to first release said closure member and to secure
said operating rod against movement; and means
associated with and operable by said first named
means to prevent the closing of said closure mem-
ber until it has been first moved to a predetermined
fully open position.
