There are several lady operators in the
country, but we know of only one who c-an.
and actually does, do everything connected
with the business, such as servicing ma-
chines, installing wall boxes, and such.
That outstanding person is Operator Mrs.
Zoe Johnson, wife of Operator B. F. John-
son, of Houston.
Just how efficient Mrs. Johnson is at in-
stalling wall boxes was demonstrated re-
cently when she and a male operator each
bought exactly the same number of Wur-
litzer wall boxes for practically the same
type locations. The male hired two men to
install his boxes. Mrs. Johnson tackled the
job alone and did it in less than half the
time of the other opera tor. Furthermore,
she only had one bit of trouble, ,which she
quickly corrected by referring to factory
installation specifications. The male work-
men had more grief. The male op, being
a good sport, gave permission to have his
name used, but we declined. He remarked
that next time he had such a job he would
attempt to hire Mrs. Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson modestly admitted that she
was equally good on outside speakers,
trouble shooting, electrical work and the
rest. Finally, lest an impression of a large,
coarse-voiced, mannish looking person be
formed, we hasten to add that the lady is
smaller than the average, soft spoken, at-
tractive, and wi th the slender, capable
hands of a musician or expert mechanic.
Houston Music Operators have some in-
teresting hobbies. Ernest Gates is an ama-
teur collector of stamps and coins. His
stamp collection is especially large and has
a value totaling hundreds of dollars. Jake
Zoeller is another stamp collector. For-
merly a professional and active in the local
collectors' association, Jake now seeks the
rare ones purely for pleasure.
