Oregon Skill Games
UST our usual after-meeting report to
let operators know how things are pro-
gressing up our way. .
From latest reports the Equality Tax
League is very, very ill. They couldn't
stand the gaff, and when The Sm oke Screen,
official publication of the Retail Cigar D eal-
ers, came out for us, as did the Oregon
Food and Beverage Dispensers, the E. T. 1.
has quieted down until even ther staunch
supporters can't find them. More reason,
we fee l, for all Oregon operators to join us
instead of riding along on our work.
Eere's a published· statement by J. J.
Sanders, who also is president of the Equal·
ity T ax League:
RE EQUALITY TAX LEAGUE
I wish it distinctly understood that the
Retail Cigar Dealers Association 01 Oregon.
Inc .. has absolutely no connection whatso-
ever with the organizing or working 01 the
above league.

PURELY PERSONAL
Ace Arnsberg of Northwest Amusement
Co. and Mrs. Arnsberg have returned from
a honeymoon trip to Sydney, Australia, and
Honolulu. Art Brandt and his wife also
returned recentl y after 'spending several
months " down under." President Koehler
announces his return to the operating field
- music machines exclusively, he says, with
the latest records and modern equipment.
Harry Nemer, yo unger brother of Norman
Nemer, has taken over the management of
their Portland locations and is doing well.
Our members are enrolling their salesmen
and collectors as associate members so they
wi ll get a better slant on our problem5.

DUETTE POPULAR
• Coast operators ahine to new
twin-compartment v endinq unit.
LOS ANGELES. - Judging from tht:
highly successful "operation" of sample
models of the D uette twin-compartment
merchandise vendor which visiting oper-
ators empty of nuts and candy on their
dai ly calls at National Amusement Co., the
operators are becoming imp.ressed with the
profit possibilities with thiS new Ad-Lee
product.
Jack McClelland, head of National and
Southern California distributor for Duette,
always has a string of the mac?ines on
display, but" reports he has a hard Job keep-
ing them filled with delicacies for demon-
stration purposes. The steady crowd of
operators in the place finds th~ Duette an
ideal depository for extra penmes and as a
result Jack has had to have one of .the
service men collect and fill the machmes
nearly every day.
.
"r couldn't give a better demonstratIOn
of Duette's double earning power than the
operators themselves are putting on in pat-
ronizi ng the machine," McClelland reports.
" And perhaps that's why they're buying so
many . . They find that Duette will do twice
as much work for the investment and they
like it because of the three-sided window
display that permits co~plete view of the
merchandise."
TO REMODEL
LOS ANGELES,-Plans for remodeling
the display rooms of the National Amuse-
ment Co. to include a sound-proof and
newly decorated phonograph department
were announced by Jack McClelland.
The new . arrangement is to provide a
more attractfve and convenient setting for
Rock-Ola Multi-Selectors distributed by the
firm, with C. J. (Frenchy) LaBauve as
manager of the phonograph division. The
new Rock-Ola Rhythm King is now being
shown to operators at National.
This appeared in The Smoke Screen,
which also published a full column article
setting forth in excellent manner the pur-
poses and principles of the Oregon Skill
Games Association- a good introduction to
2,100 location owners who read that maga-
zi ne l The Association also had a half-page
ad listing its members and official seal and
its affi li ation with the National Counci l of
Coin Machine Operators Associations.
An item of interest showing why associa-
tion pays is this: On a recent Saturday,
President Koehler received a call from the
city license bureau abo ut a petition signed
by 100 dads in the Sellwood district of
Portland asking prompt attention to their
claim that their minor sons were playing
marble games. The association promptly
notified all locations that games would be
withdrawn if minors were all owed to play.
