THE
positive manner and immediately
the last coin passes the operating
lever the ticket is delivered almost
instantaneously. It is possible to
insert sufficient coins at once to de
liver, say, two or 'three tickets. Gen
erally speaking the machine delivers
one ticket in about a second.
Another feature is that the actual
printing unit can be changed in
about five seconds, that is to say the
whole of the printing matter on the
ticket can be completely altered by
the changing over of one small unit.
Attention has also been given to
the electrical side of the machine.
In the past a good deal of trouble
has been experienced with electrical
contacts which were necessary to
make the machine operate. This has
been entirely eliminated and the
machine is so designed that no elec
tric contacts of any description are
necessary.
The mechanism is easily accessible
and can be completely removed
from the case of the machine or,

alternatively, it can be pulled out of
the machine on rails for inspection
in 'the simplest possible manner.

Stop Queer Coins

Operators in border states have to
contend with Canadian and Mexi
can coins. Until recently little diffi
culty was experienced as coins of
the two countries are current ex
change among tradesmen.
From England comes a report
showing how the foreign coin prob
lem is handled.

French coins of about the same
weight instead of pennies into the
slots.
The solicitor, who prosecuted on
behalf of the British Automatic
Company, said that whenever this
particular vessel came to London
French “pennies” appeared in the
•machines at Liverpool Street Sta
tion, Since last February 863 of
them had been collected at this sta
tion alone. The Alderman ordered
the defendant to pay a fine of £5
and 21s. costs.
