WPB REPORTS IMROVED
IMPORTS OF SHELLAC
Because the outlook for in
creased imports of shellac now
appears brighter than at any
time during the last two years,
the W ar Production Board in
a release issued March 8, 1944
that it is planning to amend A l
location Order No. M -106 to
make some of the h i g h e r
grades of shellac available for
civilian uses. The contemplated
amendment also would elimin
ate l a r g e amounts of paper
work, W PB said.
Proposals for easing the re
strictions were discussed at a
meeting of W P B ’s Shellac In
dustry Advisory Committee to
day. The members agreed with
W PB officials that some relax
ation of the restrictions is desir
able at this time.
W PB representatives a l s o
announced at the meeting that
plans are being made for eas
ing present restrictions on in
ventories under the order.
In view of the fact that shel
lac is an important ingredient
in the manufacture of phono
graph records, easing up of the
restrictions may enable a great
er volume of p h o n o g r a p h
record production. Music ma
chine operators will welcome
the return of m o r e adequate
supplies of records.
