Wanted to get the best buy for your
money, what firm would you do busi
ness with?”
He wrinkled his forehead fo r a
minute.
I’ll tell you,” he said. There are
ozens of vending machine manufac
turers. It’ s getting to be a terrific
industry. Why, they even hold a con
vention of hundreds o f manufacturers
«ind sales managers and operators
every year— a national affair.”
That isn’t answering my question,”
I heckled.
‘ There’s a machine called the S il

darned expensive but that’s a fooler.
thought they’d be around ten
smackers apiece when I first got a
gander at them but now I ’m buying
them in lots o f ten fo r $55.00— just
five and a half bucks each.”
Sounds mighty reasonably fo r a
machine that works for you day and
night,” I volunteered.
You bstch a!” he admitted. “ You

Milk Industry Considers
Use of Venders
Boston, Mass.— Slot machines
from which bottled milk may be
bought is a possibility of the
near future, members of the
New England Association of
Milk Marketing Officials were
told by Park Carpenter, tech
nical assistant of the Massa
chusetts Milk Control Board.
L. T. Tompkins of the Massa
chusetts Department of Agri
culture declared that milk con
sumption in the Boston market
had dropped 43,000 quarts a
day while production had risen
70,000 quarts a day since 1937.
It seems to me there is a very
definite need for greater mar
keting effort and greater adver
tising,” he said.
Bally Beverage Venders get fina l inspection before being loaded as part of two

York distributors.
“ Babe” Kaufman Visits W urlitzer Plant
Ernie Petering, W urlitzer Assistant General Sales Manager and John Schwartz, Assistant
Sales Manager, hear “ Babe” Kaufman say, “ My operation proves it — W urlitzer's
the W inner."
Envy o f many a male Music M er
chant, “ Babe” Kaufm an’s New Y ork
City operation grows steadily and
profitably year after year. Success is
no novelty to “ Babe” but the success
she is enjoying with W urlitzer
Counter Model Phonographs is so
great that she couldn’t hide her
enthusiasm.
Says
“ Babe” , “ Any
Music Merchant who can’t make
money with those little beauties had
better get out o f the business. I
have plenty o f them in good spots
and they quickly pay fo r themselves
and profit besides. Locations like
the built-in speaker feature, too, that
makes
them
complete
automatic
phonographs.”
W ith these words the most promi
nent lady Music Merchant, headed
homeward promising to be back again
soon, “ And,” she added, “ at the rate
things are going it will be with
another substantial order fo r the
biggest earning instruments I ever
operated— 1940 W urlitzers.”
