Louisiana Bill Seeks
Legalization
A bill has been introduced into the
Louisiana Legislature by Senator
James A. Richardson to legalize op
eration of slot machines and pin
games in Louisiana. The provisions
of this bill would force every oper
ator to pay $500 annually as a privi
lege tax on each machine, with each
parish of the State authorized to
impose a similar tax.
Senator Richardson said that it
was just common sense to legalize
these machines since everyone was
playing them, and that the revenue
derived from them yearly could be
used for worthy purposes.

Monarch Coin Offers
New “Stock” Machine
Since the coin machine show in
Chicago, a comeback has been staged
in penny operated machines.
Monarch Coin Machine Company
is helping the come-back by bringing
to the market a new type of the old
time coin operated electricity or
“shock” machine. This device creates
a harmless electric current which can
be increased at will, and which is
indicated by a pointer in plain sight
of the patron. The expense involved
is practically nil since only one dry
battery is required, and 1,500 to 3,000
plays can be had before replacement.
The machine is automatic and re
winds after each play. It is equipped
with a cut-off and means of regulat
ing the time from one-half to one
minute.

H A R R Y RICH M AN
At a going-away party given for
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert F. Messee, on
their departure from Chicago to take
up residence in St. Louis, Mo., Harry
Richman, well known night club and
radio star, was master of ceremonies
for the evening. Richman might be
recalled for his bravery in flying
across the Atlantic Ocean with pilot
Dick Merrill.
At the opening of the first show
and throughout the entire evening,
Harry proved himself an ardent
booster of the Popmatic machine. He
is reported to have said that every
one should have the opportunity of
owning a Popmatic and enjoying its
delicious product, POPmatiCORN.
In full appreciation of the publicity
that Richman gave to the Popmatic
concern, Rudolph R. Greenbaum dis
patched a note to him saying that a
Popmatic machine would be sent to
Richman with the compliments of
Mr. Greenbaum. Mr. Richman later
announced that he would set this
machine on the lawn of his Florida
home.
Mr. Messee is advertising manager
for Popmatic Mfg. Co.
