Tips From An
Operator
(Continued from page 100)
My tip for the enterprising
operator is to get into a field
of the Coin Machine Industry
where he can sow his ambition
and money in the spots which
he believes will sprout up into
top-notch summer resorts, thus
gaining for himself a profitable
return on his investment.
Operators would be the re
cipients of a good turn if the
manufacturers did not put out
so many new machines. If they
would just dress up the style
they are manufacturing instead
of putting out an entirely new
device it would be possible for
the operator to keep his ma
chine on location much longer.
Competition would not be so
tough and operators would not
be so reluctant to buy more
and more machines. But when
105
a new comer in the business
flaunts a “ dressy” machine in
a territory, it is certain to take
the play away from a machine
which is just as effective and
which nine out of ten times is
operated by a man who really
knows what it is all about.
This means a good deal in gain
ing a profit in operating. But
all our work can go for naught
when our competition is height
ened by a product “ dressed to
kill” and is as effective as a
beautiful blonde stealing a hus
band from a wife who is home
ly but who is a marvelous cook.
No good comes from it!
Reasons for operators not
making a go of things can be
attributed to various factors.
One of which is their inclina
tion to pay-out too much money
to the merchant. This only
spoils things for the fellow who
is conducting his business on a
non-partisan basis, every mer
chant getting the same share
of the receipts.
The resort locations in the
past few years have become
very choice in money making
possibilities. This fact can be
proven by noting that the at
tendance of visitors at “ Little
Bohemia,” in 1937 reached a
total of 50,000. This figure was
computed over a term of about
eight months. The “ G-Men vs.
Dillinger” battle had some
thing to do with this, of course,
but there is no telling what this
influx of resort visitors can
do for other establishments
throughout the country. People
from all over the United States
visit the North Woods, and
leave carrying tales of the
amusement machines to be
found in that territory.
