Photomatic C licks E very 60 Seconds
/"'|NE of the great features which
has brought tremendous popularity
to the Mutoscope Photomatic picture
taker was most appropriately present
ed by one of the operators o f the
machine who was visiting the factory
recently.
He stated, “ They all talk about ma
chines that earn money fast. Well,
there’s one thing that I have to say
about Photomatic that ought to put
all these fast money-maker stories to
rest. That is, that every sixty sec
onds Photomatic turns out a complete
portrait of somebody on my location,
and at 25c each, if that doesn’t hold
its own with any other kind of a
coin operated machine I’ve missed my
guess.
“ Of course, there are some ma
chines that do take a coin a minute.
But, there is no machine ever made
that does more than Photomatic
which takes a photograph, develops
and prints it and then frames it—and
all in sixty seconds.”
International Mutoscope Reel Com
pany, Inc., manufacturers of the sen
sational Photomatic have learned that
this feature of a photograph a min
ute has won the warm praise of every
one of their operators. This speed
action gives everyone who wants a
picture a chance to get to the ma
chine without causing any jams.
The firm also have a folder which
illustrates the many and varied op
erations which the machine goes
through in these sixty seconds of
making each photo which is a really
scientific marvel in itself.

“ It was eight years ago,” say offi
cials of the Pan Confection Company,
“ that C. A. Gerlack, our sales mana
ger, saw that operators of vending
machines would have trouble vending
ordinary candies in their machines.
Largely through his efforts we have
developed a candy that will stand up
in the machine and vend satisfactorily
without sticking together and gum
ming up the machine.
“ After a good deal of experiment
ing,” they went on, “ our factory de
veloped a candy with a hard shell
coating that will resist a high degree
of heat, with high quality and of the
distinctive taste that characterizes our
product.
The development of this
candy has meant added profits for
many vending machine operators, as
they can use the hard shell candies
without fear of spoilage. Machines
require less time to service too, since
considerable less time is required to
clean the machine.”

Daval Ma n u f a c t u r i n g Company,
well known and popular manufactur
ers of Chicago were highly praised
by leading distributors who visited
their factory to see the firm’s newest
hit counter game, Reel Spot.
Though Reel Spot was the cynosure
of all eyes, the praise was really for
the fine manner Daval use to test
their machines prior to their presen
tation on the market.
General opinion was crystallized by
one distributor who stated, “ We have
always admired Daval Manufacturing
Company because of the fine way in
which they test every game on actual
locations prior to sending it down to
us for our criticism and local tests.
“ We personally believe that these
tests are the reason that Daval games
are so well liked everywhere in the
country. The distributor can certain
ly sell Daval machines with more con
fidence for he knows that the machine
was thoroughly tested on location
even before he received his first sam
ple. He also knows that these tests
quickly bring out any faults that may
be found in the machine and they
also allow for the further improve
ments which the factory can make
previous to starting production.
“ All these facts added up mear. a
great deal to us who have to sell the
machines to our customers. We have
to extend credit to the operators and
therefore depend on the machine to
stand up for weeks to come so that
we are paid, our customers are satis
fied and have earned profit and to
help us increase our business to a
point where we can be of greater
value to the manufacturer.
“ These pre-tests of machines as
Daval makes them is the reason why
such fine games as Reel Spot are able
to appear on the market. They are
also the reason for such games as
Chicago Club House, Penny Pack,
Reel “ 21” and the dozens of sensa
tional novelty pin games which the
firm have produced.
“ All I can say as a distributor is
that I want more firms like Daval to
represent in my territory for I know
that the game will be 100 per cent
when it reaches me.”
The sale which Joe Calcutt has been
conducting at the Vending Machine
Company offices will continue for an
indefinite period. In the sale Calcutt
has placed at the disposal of opera
tors the firm’s huge stock, which in
cludes machines and supplies of every
type and kind. The response has been
so great, according to reports, that
the firm is enjoying the biggest busi
ness in its history.
“ Some of the machines are going so
fast that they are sold before we have
checked them,” Calcutt reports. “ The
flood of orders which we have been
receiving are keeping the men in the
shipping department busy as bees
throughout the whole day. We believe
that the sale will be long remembered,
for those who have already taken ad
vantage of it are spreading the word
that we are giving them perfectly
reconditioned equipment that is guar
anteed regardless of price.”

“ Why didn’t you accept that job at
the factory you mentioned the other
day?”
“ Well they said I ’d have to work
in a night shift, and all I had was a
pair o f pajamas.”

Duce has issued an order recent
ly, prohibiting the marriage of any of
his soldiers to Ethiopian damsels.
Next he’ll be prohibiting the con
sumption of dark meat at a chicken
dinner.
