R O C K -O LA ’ S “A c m e o f Perfection— The New 1937 World Series!
I t ’s “ P L A Y B A L L ” tim e . Crowds p o u r in g
through the gates—a capacity crowd—still the
people come. I t may he an over-flow game today.
The players are on the field w arm ing up—Dean
in the hox, ju s t getting a new hall from the
Umpire . . . Terry on first . . . Gehringer on
second . . . Dykes on third . . . Appling playing
short . . . Medwick in left . . . Averill in center
. . . Demaree in right.
There’s the “ U m p ’s ” “ P L A Y B A L L !”
Di Maggio is “ u p ” . .. Gehrig is “ on deck.” H art
nett gives the sign to Dean. A II! The “ wind-up”
— here’s the “ pitch” . The “ U m p” raises his
left arm . . . i t ’s a “ BALL.” Now his right arm
. . . i t ’s a “ ST RIK E” . . . “ FOUL-BALL, Strike
2!” . . . The wind-up again—wow! I t ’s a “ H IT ”
right between Gehringer and Terry.
Dean shifts his “ plug” to the right cheek.
This is going to be a peach of a game, especially
w ith H ubbell facing Dean.
“ Oh Boy!” Gehrig hits the first pitch for a“ two-
bagger” — the ru n crosses the plate and up comes
Waner. I ’ll say this is going to be a ball game.
Look at Waner sock that ball o ut to right,
b u t Demaree shifts over fast and i t ’s an out.
Up comes Dickey— the “ U m p” calls th a t one a
“ Strike” . Here comes the next ball . . . BOY,
OH B OY! I t looks like it—it looks like it—it
looks like it, IT IS ! R ight over the fence— a
HOM E R U N ! . . . “ I ’ll kiss m y mother-in-law
if he d id n ’t smack a clean, sweet home ru n .”
You too, M r. Operator, will make a “ home
ru n ” in Big Profits w ith ROCK-OLA’S Sensa
tional “ W ORLD SERIES,” fo r listen . . . .
