Service vs. Price
By N A T COHN of Modern Vending Co.
Proper service is a valuable asset to any
operator desirous of holding or increasing
his operator clientele. Jobbers will gradually
find out that price is not everything in the
Jobbing field.
Give the operator the kind of repair serv
ice you would expect on your automobile.
Give him the benefits of your knowledge and
experience regarding locations. Advise him
of the type of games or machines to place
on different locations.
Show the operator how he can realize
more profits and he will appreciate it by
patronizing you and not the price cutters.
Give me the manufacturer who will advise
me how to sell more games and I will
gladly pay him his price in preference to
the manufacturer who with no helpful
advice loads me up with cut price merchan

dise. So also give the operator profit
making information and defy your com
petitor to take his business away from you.
Just think, Mr. Operator, what service
means to you.. You buy a game from a job
ber at say, $3.00 less than the selling price.
This game, we will say nets you $10.00 a
day at a good location. Now supposing
something goes wrong with the mechanism
of this game. Remember you lose $10.00 a
day for each day it fails to produce. If it
takes three days for you to have that game
serviced, you lose $30.00. It is granted that
you saved $3.00 on buying price but you are
out $27.00 due to the poor service you re
ceived from the concern from whom you
purchased the game. So just remember,
service means more to you than the price you
pay for the games you purchase.
Editor’s Note: Mr. Cohn who has had 10
years past experience operating has hit the
nail on the head. Service first and the price
will take care of itself.
Mrs. Whifflebaum: “I’m worried about
Tommy. He’s so cheerful and never sees
anything wrong with anything.”
Mr. Whifflebaum: “ Oh, he’ll probably
grow up to be a bank examiner.”
