The National Transformer Mfg. Co., Chi­
cago, has purchased the Balkeit factory,
name and materials at North Chicago, 111.,
and is now established in that city. The
firm is owned and operated by I. J. Mendels
and R. L. Eglaston, both of whom have been
active in radio since its inception.
Mr.
Mendels is in charge of production and en­
gineering and Mr. Eglaston will supervise
the sales of both the Balkeit receiver and
private brand radio chassis. There will be
only one Balkeit chassis, and there will be
eight distinctive chasses for private brand
sale. The receiver for all of the lines will
be an eight-tube set, equipped with three
screen-grid tubes and using 245 push-pull.
In taking over the Balkeit plant, the Na­
tional Transformer Mfg. Co. comes into
possession of the RCA license and a large
stock of radio material, enabling them to
produce chassis at attractive prices which
will be sold to distributors, cabinet manu­
facturers, and sales companies. There will
be a limited number of Balkeit jobbers ap­
pointed for the distribution of these chassis,
and cabinets will be furnished by six dif­
ferent cabinet manufacturers direct to the
distributors. Speakers, made by prominent
manufacturers, will be handled in the same
way and arrangements have already been
completed with both the speaker and cabinet
sources. The firm plans a daily production
that will run well into four figures, having
secured several large contracts at the pres­
ent time.
The firm also is offering the National
dime controlled radio receiver to the auto­
matic trade.
