Hello, Mr. Lightner! HAPPY NEW YEAR to you—and
your staff—and to that gallant and trusty standard bearer
of our industry, the AUTOMATIC AGE.
Old Father Time is about to cut another notch in his belt
and my blood tingles with pleasure when I think in retro­
spection of the tremendous progress which our industry has
achieved. Yes, automatics is an industry and one I am
PROUD OF.
I bet that you have been wondering what’s new lately
down my way. Well, the show room is still the most com­
plete in America and my offices are still the busy headquar­
ters o f operators and arcade men from every part of the
country, BUT now I have something NEW to tell you. I
wanted to tell you about this a long time ago but I pre­
ferred to wait until PLANS became REALTIES.
Here are the facts: Two years ago I started work on a
little formula that goes like this:
1— Up-to-the-Minute Machine Shop.
2 — Finest set of mechanics in the business.

3— Overpowering desire to make up the finest machines.
To this compound I gradually added 666 sleepless nights,
that brains and effort and exeperience could produce.
2468 headaches, plus some more sleepless nights, plus some
headaches. A mountain of work-this inventing business—
BUT (this is the biggest BUT of all) here is what I’ve got:
Our Invention No. 1 will be formally announced in the
February issue of the AGE, so get a lot of INK ready, be­
cause we have something to say to the trade. What a ma­
chine it is! Ask any operator what he wants in machine.
FLASH?
PRICE?
PEP?
LEGALITY?
EARNING
POWER, Oh, what’s the use of making a list, Invention
No. 1 has E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. Strong statement, eh?
Well, watch the February issue.
And so, here comes another year. Let’s hope it will be
at least as good as the last one. To make it better is up
to you and me and the boys in the business throughout the
country. As for me, each year I see the coin-operated ma­
chine business play a more important part in the life of
our nation and I am happy to feel that when the pool is
taken of the men who sincerely believed in the future of
this industry it will include the name of,
