Should the Convention Be Held
On Same Dates With Amusement Parks
—and Should We Hold Two a Year?
A t the Detroit convention, there
will be two important questions for
the operators and manufacturers to
decide:
First, where shall we hold
the next convention, and second,
shall we hold two conventions a
year, one in the East and one in the
W est?
The Cleveland boys are already
preparing to extend an invitation to
meet at Cleveland next year. There
is nothing we would not do fo r W il
liam Gent and the Cleveland boys.
A t the same time, we would like to
have the convention come back to
Chicago next year. W e have been
told that there is a growing antag
onism on the part o f the operators
throughout the U. S. against coming
to Chicago next year, because some
operators are getting the notion that
Chicago manufacturers are in “ ca
hoots” with a small group o f oper
ators here who get up an annual
show and sell space in conflict with
the National Coin Machine Operators’
Association- We can assure the out
side boys that with almost negligible
exception, the Chicago manuacturers
are co-operating fully with the De
troit show and are not encouraging
the group o f local operators.
We
hope that this sentiment will not con
tinue to exist against the Chicago
manufacturers and hinder us from
gett'ng the next convention.
In this connection it has teen sug
gested that we hold the next conven
tion at Chicago at the time o f the
National Amusement Parks Associa
tion convention, about the middle o f
December. This exposition is at
tracting more and more coin machine
men, particularly the resort men, the
penny arcade men, the music ma
chine men, etc. Some point out that
by having our show on the same
dates, but at a different hotel, we
could almo. t double the attendance
o f the buyers. It is true that the
manufacturers would have to make
two exhibits in some cases, but they
would be willing to do it because
they would only be away from home
one week in making the two shows,
and be at no more expense for per
sonnel in manning the exhibit.
In case we did that, should we
have another show in the East, say
Atlantic City or Philadelphia, about
May?
Both o f these propositions
will be fully discussed at Detroit, but
in order that we may get a consen
sus o f opinion, we are asking- all man
ufacturers and operators to fill in the
questionnaire below and mail it back
to the A U T O M A T IC AGE.
QUESTIONNAIRE
Should the Coin Machine Operators’ Association o f America try
out the plan o f holding its next Convention and Exposition at the
same time and place as the National Amusement Parks Association
Convention?
