to be dispensed, which after all is a healthy thing for the entire
industry, for without these improvements we can not take a step
forward.
Corporations, based on sound financial basis and altruistic
principles, are forming daily. Individual coin machine operators
have organized, forming a strong organization for their own mu
tual benefit and advancement. So generally everything is in a
healthy, normal condition waiting for the Detroit convention in
which all the improvements in the industry plus the new and
profitable inventions will be displayed for the benefit of all.
Vending Machine Industry
Gains Recognition
Some great work has been done by the Depart
ment of Commerce in presenting the plea of the manufacturers
and distributors before the Statistical division, to separately clas
sify the exports of the Vending Machine industry. A crying need
for exporters for some time. In a recent letter to the AUTO
MATIC AGE, the Department of Commerce announce that it has
finally secured for us the recognition that is necessary and dating
January 1st, 1929, the export statistics will be compiled in a man
ner to separately illustrate the exports o f :
Coin Operated Scales.
Coin Operated Commodity Vending Machines.
Other Coin Operated Machines, except musical instruments.
This should prove real news to manufacturers and distribu
tors who have been without a definite means of determining the
quantity of exports in their'industry. This marks the real prog
ress of the industry itself, rising to the degree of this classifica
tion, as heretofore it had been classed under “all other exports.”
The department will write to the manufacturers some time
during December formally calling their attention to the inaugura
tion of this new service giving them the numerical symbols under
which these items will be declared on the Shippers’ Export Declar
ation. The AU TOM ATIC AGE takes great pleasure in extending
the thanks on behalf of the industry for the real service the De
partment of Commerce has given us.
