When one compares the rate of $350 per page in the Billboard
and $110 in the Novelty News and the high rates of other journals
they use, it is easy to see that there is no profiteering in THE
A U TO M A TIC AGE. We are here to render a service at the lowest
possible cost. Having our own printing plant and other papers
that help absorb our overhead we are in a position to place our
advertising rate at the very minimum. A publisher not situated
like ourselves would have to charge double the rate we charge.
Mr. W . L. Dana of the Cutler Selective Vending Machine Com
pany, told us that in the first couple of weeks after the paper went
out they received 60 inquiries from their ad. Since then they have,
no doubt, received many more.
Our aim is to deserve the fullest and most hearty support from
the trade, and in return for that we will be found doing our full
share to elevate the industry to a higher and more profitable plane.

Vending Machine Operators

health and police authorities it will be well to keep in mind that
the operation of vending machines is purely a merchandising bus

designating them as slot machines.

trying to make an honest living. The biggest vending machine
operator, Mr. Ward, President of the Listerated Gum Company,
who had the subway concession in New York city, left a million
and a half of dollars to Columbia University. All this money was
made from vending machines and the chewing gum business. This
fact should be pointed out in urging the point that vending machine
operation is a strictly legitimate business.

enthusiasm; the officers were charged with zeal; the city was
charged with hospitality; and now with one last single shot we
fire are charge of thanks. We thank those who co-operated with
