W e W ill Issue the Call
for the first annual convention
of the National Vending Machine M anufacturers’ Association, or
such similar name as may be officially adopted. W e are now com
pleting a list of manufacturers who will act as a temporary com
mittee to call the convention. This committee will select from
among its members a temporary chairman, who 'will preside at
the opening session, state the object of the meeting and call for a
permanent election o f officers. All manufacturers will be eligible
to membership, and all will be invited to attend the first meeting,
feeling free to use their owTn discretion as to whether they want
to become permanent members. There will be no officers elected
or appointed in any way until the regular convention where all
members will have an opportunity to be seen and heard.
T H E A U T O M A T IC A G E , as the organ of the industry has
been asked from many sources to take the initiative in this move
ment.
W e will be glad to hear from all manufacturers who
endorse the movement and those who expect to attend. It has
been suggested that the meeting be held just previous to the next
season, either in February or March, when the newly organized
National Operators’ Association will probably also arrange to
meet at the same time and place. Details o f the meeting are not
as yet settled, and we would like to have suggestions along this
line from the manufacturers. President Funke, of the National
Operators Association, says that the early spring months would be
better for them because their members are then planning for their
summer season as a great many operate penny arcades and other
outdoor amusement enterprises.
It m ay be possible that the National Association of Chewing
Gum Manufacturers will be able to meet at the same time. This
m atter is now being! taken up with Secretary Blendow and we
expect to have a report to make before our next issue. The meet
ing of these three units, each separate and distinct, with at least
one joint meeting will be the greatest event that has ever happened
in the history of the vending machine industry. It would bring
together all the big men of the trade, and would be a stimulant and
inspiration to every one who is fortunate enough to attend. W e
predict that from such a conclave ideas would be promulgated that
would start the industry on the way to a new and greater period
and on a higher plane.
