N A T IO N A L ASSO CIATIO N
The National Association o f Chew­
ing Gum Manufacturers has all the
big chewing gum manufacturers on
its membership list and a good many
o f the smaller ones. F or the past
three years Mr. Atwater o f the Wm.
Wrigley, Jr., Company was President
o f the Association and Mr. M. D.
Bromberg form erly o f the American
Chicle Company was Secretary. The
last meeting was held at the Hotel
Biltmore, June 12, 1925, and the fo l­
lowing officers were elected:
President— Mr. L. W. Hoskins o f

Vice-President— Mr. W. B. Nesbitt
o f the Listerated Gum Co.
Secretary and Asst. Treasurer— Mr.
A. WT. Blendow of the National Gum
Co., Inc.

mann Gum Co.

Mr. G. B. Mustin, Chairman o f the

The principle items o f discussion at
the last meeting were:
(1 )— First Class Express Rates and
the unfair ruling o f the American
Express Company that chewing gum
is not a food product and as a conse­
quence taking first-class rate. Con
fectionery takes second class.

(2 )— Taxation of Vending Ma­
chines.
(3 )— Ball Gum Department o f the
industry.
(4) — Suggested concerted action
toward educating the public that the
chewing gum industry has a real rea­
son fo r existence.
The recent death o f Mr. Charles
G. Hylander was reported.
Mr.
Hylander was connected with the
Wm. W rigley, Jr., Company fo r many
years and was Chairman o f the
Traffic Committee o f the Association.
A recent letter from Secretaiy
Blendow says:
“ The Association only meets once
a year and that is in the month of
June so we do not believe that it
would be advantageous fo r you to
plan a meeting with the National
Association at just this time. Some
action should be taken immediately
to bring about better conditions in
the trade and the getting together of
the various factors in it.”
A Grand Thing

the A U T O M A T IC AGE and I think
it a grand thing fo r the manufactur­
ers and operators and any one that
is interested in automatic machines.
We should have had such a journal
years ago. I want to thank you for
